• I was in agony waiting for news about the man that Cris had put behind her. Jason had been following her since the car left the mountain, and no matter how hard I tried to distract myself while waiting for updates, I couldn't.
• Not even the new report that Suzie sent about Sophie's jerk of an uncle was able to distract me. All I wanted to know was where my wife was and how she was doing.
• At this point, I even wanted my mother to come here and fill my ears with her usual sermon. But she didn't show up, nor did she even give me a dirty look since she put Sophie in that car. She simply decided to ignore me, and that was somehow even worse than if she had yelled at me.
