- The air hung heavy with palpable discomfort. Each passing second, felt like it had stretched to an eternity. I pulled my dress further down as if it wasn’t low enough already. I refused to stare back at Lillie's eyes. I did not want to see the betrayal in them. The ground was interesting enough for me.
