Chapter 28
- The cold and chilly day did not hinder the people of London from going about their day, as the city was packed to the brim with pedestrians running up and down, the metros jostling up and about the underground tunnels, everyone so caught up on the newspapers they were reading or their smartphones. I was currently one of those people. My fully charged metallic smartphone was in my hand, not that I was busy texting or catching up on emails and news like how I assumed the people around me were doing but more less like trying to distract myself from the ongoing internal turmoils of my heart. I felt like I was about to throw up and it was not because of the hideous stench inside the metro brought about the different people’s scent occupying the metro, from those who had showered, the drunkards or the ones who clearly had their lives together indicated by the well ironed neat clothes and perfumes they adorned.
- The metro came to a standstill, as the door chimed opened. My stop was here at last, making the dreadful feeling amplify even more as the realisation came of the decision I had made. Despite the chilly day, the sun was shining brightly up in the sky, scorching our faces and skin. I pulled my coat closer and tighter hoping that it would give me more warmth as I made my way towards the giant building glaring in front of me.
- The security at the front of the building stared at me suspiciously, before regardless opening the front door for me. I couldn’t blame them either, I didn’t exactly look like a person who worked here, comparing my casual top and jeans covered in a trench coat, with the classy business suits and dresses the workers here paraded around in. I should have really tried to dress up here, then maybe I would not feel out of place. My nerves were eating me out alive and they did not get better as I approached the reception to let them know of the reason why I was here.
