- I watched them from across the fire-lit chamber, those three women. Bella, Eugene, and Lilia, sharing a house near the edge of the main residence. They were inseparable, always laughing and teasing, their friendship apparent in the easy way they touched each other’s arms and shoulders, and talked. It got on my nerves to the point I could sense my wolf’s relentless instincts raging.
- What made it so annoying was that Hunter stood there with them, his deep laughter mingling with theirs. It was him they were touching now, playfully shoving his shoulder or brushing their fingers against his. Each touch, each laugh, was like a dagger to my heart. I clenched my fists, willing myself not to show how much it bothered me.
