Chapter 38

  • We walked back to the house like abandoned zombies who were weak from their search for food. It was more like a wild goose chase, because all efforts proved furtile. The neighbors weren't at help at all and that taught me that we actually lived like strangers. I realized that I barely knew many of the people who lives in the neighborhood. For some, that was the first time I was seeing them, for some I might have seen them once in a while but had no idea which building they lived. For others, though I knew where they stayed, that was my first time knocking at their gate to say hi. I wasn't the only one guilty of that, but I'm beginning to learn a bitter lesson from this experience though.
  • We entered the compound and locked the gate. It was beginning to Dawn on me that the fact that my children were missing was becoming a reality. The more I thought about it, the more frustrated I was becoming, and I couldn't do anything about it.
  • Jessica was holding my left hand, but I still staggered till I could walk no longer, so I fell on the ground. Jessica tried to hold me up, but she lost grip and I fell completely on the ground. She tried making me sit up, but I shoved her hands away, hitting myself and crying.
