- My eyes opened to my ceiling, I didn’t need anyone to tell me the morning had dawned. Usually, I wake up without feeling any emotion in particular but today was different. Today, I was overridden with sadness intertwined with faint anger. Today was my mother’s remembrance. The only day in my life I usually feel like a failure.
- I exhaled deeply as I sat up. I looked to the right side of my bed, it was the same place Sierra had slept two nights ago. Ever since that night, she hasn't talked much with me. She barely smiled and even when we had conversations, she made it short as if she wasn’t interested in talking to me.
