• “I’m so sorry,” Peri apologized to her boyfriend. She looked at him with pity, gently dressing his wound. They were in his suite, in the living room that same night. When she learned he went over to her house, she went directly to the hotel after her class. “I know I should’ve told you, but I thought you’d better not. I thought it would pass, and things would cool down, then Papa would accept you.”
• “You thought so?” Asher said sourly. His arms were around her, with her sitting on his lap sideways.
• She nodded innocently. “I thought that if you don’t come to our house for a while, Papa will change his mind and accept our relationship. But no, you went there without telling me. How could you? Look what happened,” she vented.
