Chapter 39

• Peri, overall, had a bad week. She had a cough, with a fever that fortunately went away after a day and a half. To add more on her sickness, her monthly visitor came. She groaned when her abdomen ached on the first two days. Oh, how she hated this monthly visit and the cramps that usually came with it!
• Luckily, she got better with medication. And Asher’s presence. He did not seem to care whether or not her father and grandmother would notice. He was there for her, though he did his best to be discreet. When Maurice was at work, Asher would boil some water to pour into the hot water bottle for her to place on her abdomen and feel better. However, he could not stay in the room with her without having Patricio suspect anything. The latter merely thought that he was there to give them a hand since Maurice wasn’t with them. The old lady would just come home around dinner time.
• One time, Remrod visited Peri when he learned that she was sick. She noticed his envious glances at Asher, who was usually in the living room with Patricio. Meanwhile, Peri’s boyfriend would stare at them, giving the younger man a nonchalant expression on his face. But Remrod knew better. The foreigner did not want him around Peri.
