Chapter 31

• Alexei walked into the hospital cafeteria and found Dani at a table with her best friend Georgia.
• Dani did not seem to notice his arrival immediately. She was nursing a cup of coffee with both hands, looking tired and distraught as she spoke with her friend, whose back was facing him.
• Even from where he stood, it was clear the stress was taking a toll on her face. He had never seen Dani look so fatigued and troubled, and to think this was the same girl who’d laughed in his face when she was tied up in a warehouse only a few months ago.
