Chapter 28

• We arrived at the hotel quickly. We enter a grand hall, often used for such occasions. Venice left me at my assigned table to tend to the other guests. At my table, there were seven seats, but only three of us were currently seated. A woman and an elderly couple caught my attention.
• "Hi! My name is Franxine," the woman introduced herself, extending her hand for a handshake. I reciprocated with a warm smile, but before our greeting could fully conclude, another person arrived, causing Franxine's expression to change dramatically. "Bree! I thought you weren't going to come tonight?" Franxine teased the newcomer, clearly surprised by her unexpected arrival.
• "Change of mind," Bree replied simply, taking her assigned seat with an air of nonchalance. As the couple settled into their seats, the woman's gaze immediately fell upon me, and she flashed a smirk that could be mistaken for a smile. "Hello! You must be Veronica's jealous twin sister," she remarked with a hint of sarcasm.
