Chapter 4 Who Killed Alpha Roland?

  • * * * * * * * * * *
  • I woke up in the morning feeling better than the previous night; Well, thst talk with my sweet parents plus a goodnight sleep was enough to do the trick. My maids were there to help me clean and dress up, it was their duty and I was getting used to it.
  • I wish I didn’t because now, I kind of depend on them for everything, they help me in the bathroom, oil my skin, get me in a dress and even do as much as combing and styling my hair. That was life as a princess.
  • My dad was always busy so I barely had time to spend with him, except when he had to teach me a few things about being a royalty or at nights, when he was free from his duty to the kingdom.
  • My mom was the one who was always available for me. Well her only duty was to support the king and take care of the family, which consisted of me and my younger brother Simon.
  • I sat on my stool, practicing poetry in front of a mirror, a festival was fast approaching and as the princess of the kingdom, I was expected to sing on that day. Unlike the other princess duties which I really dislike, I have developed a strong attraction to poetry as it makes me feel happy and takes away my boredom.
  • My poetry practice was disturbed by a knock on the door. I sighed and got up, dropping the poem book on the little table that held the standing mirror.
  • I walked to the door and unlocked it, expecting to meet one of my maids but it was a messenger. I wonder why he had come straight to me rather than the king.
  • “Yes, how may I help you?” I queried and tucked a few strands of my hair behind my ears, they were disturbing my eyesight.
  • “Princess, we had just received information that Alpha Roland is dead, I thought I should inform you.”
  • My face went pale the moment I heard that, “Have you lost your mind? You know you can be executed for delivering false information,” I half-yelled.
  • “I bring no false news, your highness, it has been confirmed that Alpha Roland is dead, his body is been incinerated as we speak.” The man replied.
  • My heart beat paused for the moment and it felt like the whole world had frozen as well. The messenger’s words kept echoing in my head; Alpha Roland was dead? How was that even possible? I saw him yesterday.
  • I pushed the messenger aside and ran down the stairs. I saw my mom climbing up the stairs, and she was probably coming up to my room.
  • “Sweetheart, are you okay?” she queried but I sped past in tears, with no words in mind to reply.
  • This cannot be true. Although I was very upset with him for cheating on me yesterday, I would never want him dead.
  • “Monica, wait!” Mom yelled and came after me.
  • Right now, I didn’t care that a princess was not expected to run around in the palace, I didn’t give a damn about my steps or the risk of me falling. I ran out of the castle but then ended up at the locked gate. Of course, the castle gate was always locked; I should have gone through the back.
  • “Open the gate you fools!” I yelled at the men in charge.
  • “I am sorry Princess, but your father had ordered not to let you out for the rest of this week.”
  • “Just open the damn gate!” I screamed.
  • “Stop it Monica, what has gone wrong with you?” Mom asked as she finally approached me.
  • “The messenger just informed me that Roland is dead Mom,” I replied in tears.
  • The expression on Mom's face told me everything I needed to know. The information was true and she already knew about it. Mom came closer and pulled me to her chest while I sobbed.
  • “That was why I was coming to your room sweetheart, I didn’t know that the messenger would make it there before me.” She said and consoled me.
  • “But how is that mom? He was fine yesterday, how can he be dead today?” I queried in tears.
  • “I don’t know Monica, but the rumor says he was murdered. That was not the only information, this might hurt you to find out but he was with another woman at the time of the incident and she was found dead as well. Whatever happened to them, no one in his Pack knows about it.”
  • Well I was not surprised about the female part because I had witnessed that, but who could have killed them?
  • Now I was starting to make something out of it. When he had broken up with me yesterday, he seemed helpless, like he had been forced to do that and he had no choice. Could it be that the same person who made him do that had also killed him?
  • But who could the person be? And what is his problem with Roland?
  • “I need to go there mom, please you have to let me go there,” I pleaded.
  • “Sorry Monica, but women are not allowed to attend such gatherings, it is against the law.”
  • “I don’t care about the laws, I just want to see Roland for the last time, please mom,” I begged.
  • She hesitated for a while and sighed. I could see she was also trying to fight back her own tears; this was not easy for anyone to handle.
  • “Alright, but on the conditions that you would only watch from a distance and you have to go with a few guards. You know it is not safe for you out there.”
  • I hated the idea of going out with the guards, but I knew that I would never win if I choose to start that argument, so I agreed with mum. She let me leave the castle with four guards trailing behind. Roland`s house was not far so I went on foot, I literally ran all the way there.
  • When I arrived at the pack house, I could see his body had been placed out on a pile of wood, ready to be set on fire. There were a lot of Alphas from nearby packs present and other Pack members. The loss of an Alpha called for a sad day in the werewolf society.
  • Howls could be heard as a sign of mourning and lament for the departed. Alpha Roland had just taken the position of Alpha a few months back, after the death of his father and here now, he was gone too, with no son or sibling to take over from him.
  • There is no doubt that this was the end of his Pack’s existence, the members would either have to join new packs or become rogues.
  • I couldn’t stand the scene for long and I broke down in tears, I ran off towards the backyard, warning my guards not to follow me, they knew better than to disobey my orders outside the castle.
  • I ran to the back of Roland’s house and sat on the pavement, crying loudly. It was just me there when I arrived, but soon it felt like someone was behind me.
  • “I thought I asked you not to follow me!” I yelled and turned around, I was hoping to see one of my guards but I was surprised to come to face Damon; Alpha Damon of the Bleeding Moon Pack.
  • “You, what are you doing here?” I queried in a stern voice.
  • “This is not your pack and I had come for the incineration of the late Alpha.” He replied.
  • “Before you speak back to me, this is still Dazam and my Dad rules the entire kingdom, also I don’t remember Roland being friends with you.” I retorted.
  • “You are right, we were definitely not friends, but it seems like you were more than just a friend to him,” He said in a cold voice.
  • “What does that matter to you, people from your pack know nothing like good deeds, friendships and relationships, you are just a bunch of terrible men with no human feelings,” I fired.
  • “Is that why you rejected my mate proposal?” he queried.
  • “Not only that, I despise you and everyone from your pack, I would rather die than get mated to a man like you,” I replied with as much spite in my tone as I could gather.
  • “You better not show your face before me again, or you would regret it.” I warned and walked out on him.
  • To be continued!!
