Chapter 25 Certificate Of Insanity
- Choosing the model for the wedding invitation, Paulina, sitting between Carlota and Nathaniel, struggled not to get irritated with her fiancé. Sometimes Carlota asked Nathaniel's opinion, who responded with inaudible grumbles, shrugged his shoulders, twisted his mouth, and most of the time, said he would approve whatever they chose.
- That wasn't how she imagined her engagement. She had hoped Nathaniel would help her, encourage her, and show happiness. Since he proposed, he had been strange, distant, quiet, very different from the outgoing and smiling man she had fallen in love with. What had she done to make him act as if he was being pushed into an inevitable trap?
- She understood that he didn't want a party, Carlota's idea to introduce her to Nathaniel's family and friends as his wife. She understood that he preferred to work than waste time with details, as he called it when Carlota demanded his help. She understood that work during the week drained his energy, and even tired, he would inspect the cosmetics factory and work at home on weekends. She understood everything he asked her to understand. However, she had given up on the dream of getting married in a church and wouldn't wear the dress she wanted - her mother's - because of him, to please him. For a few minutes, she wished he would spend a little of the effort he put into the company on the wedding preparations. Work wasn't a good enough excuse. She also worked, and her job was much worse than his. Nathaniel didn't have to deal with mood swings, icy looks, and the weight of guilt.
