Chapter 38 Betrayal
- "What about Eve? Were you going to kill her?" I glance back down at poor Eve, who trembles in fear.
- William rolls his eyes, turning into someone I can no longer recognize. "Business, Annie. This is bigger than you and me and it's sure as hell bigger than the life of an insignificant woman." He dismisses her with a wave of his hand. "She's nothing more than another chess piece on the board, much like you."
- "Who even are you? I-I thought we were friends." I can hear the heartbreak in my voice as I do my best to keep it from cracking. It's true. I thought he cared about me. I thought I could count on him. Hell, I snuck away from Daniel so that I could see him--that's how much his friendship meant to me.
