Chapter 8 Unable to Distinguish Right from Wrong

  • Gemma's mood was not affected at all. "Don't worry about these things. If they come to bother me again, I don't mind teaching them how to be human."
  • Leticia glanced at her. "It's only you who have a broad mind. You can imagine the suffering you went through in the Summers family!"
  • She subconsciously closed her mouth. Gemma casually hooked her lips. When they had just gotten married, Faith would follow rules and regulations every day, and being "accidentally" splashed with tea was a common occurrence. If she had let her brothers know what kind of life she was living, they would have bankrupted Joel a long time ago.
  • After finishing their meal, the two wanted to go shopping. As they arrived at the parking lot, they saw Faith getting out of Joel's car. She was crying and complaining. Gemma had seen these tricks for three years and was already tired of them.
  • She stood there with her hands in her pockets and had a cold and indifferent expression as if they didn't exist, and walked straight past them.
  • Joel's face was gloomy. Remembering what happened with Patricia before, he wanted to hear her explanation first to avoid another misunderstanding. But he didn't expect her to look away or even bother to look at him.
  • "Don't you have anything to say?" Joel wanted to grab her, but Gemma moved aside and looked at him with a frosty expression.
  • "I was the one who asked people to get rid of them."
  • Jane was delighted. "See, I didn't lie to you, brother. Teach them a lesson!"
  • Gemma sneered. This was the reason why Joel came here, wasn't it? It wasn't the first time. Even if the matter was over, the memories of the humiliation still made her feel depressed.
  • When she was in the Summers family, no matter how Faith and Jane harassed her, she would apologize and let it go. She couldn't blame anyone but herself for indulging this scum. Now, she didn't want to give anyone a face.
  • Gemma shook off Faith's hand and said coldly, "Mr. Summers, you are a good brother and a dutiful son. But before you question others, go check the surveillance footage first."
  • Leticia couldn't stand it anymore. "Mr. Summers, your mother, and your sister are not easy to deal with. Stop pretending!"
  • Jane was nervous and grabbed Joel's arm. "Brother, you saw it. They're so arrogant..."
  • Gemma's eyes grew even colder. "Why don't you tell me why I kicked you out for no reason?"
  • Jane stuttered. Gemma had seen her ability to reverse right and wrong for three years. She was too familiar with her tricks and didn't want to bother with her performance.
  • "Fortunately, there are surveillance cameras in modern society. Otherwise, it would be difficult to prove anything with just words, right, Mr. Summers?"
  • Gemma couldn't help but sneer and pull Leticia into the car.
  • Joel watched as their car disappeared into the distance and narrowed his eyes in thought. The Gemma he met again was completely different from before, except for her appearance.
  • Did that accident stimulate her? They've been married for three years, and she has always been cautious and never speaks loudly. Even when his temper was bad in the first two years, she never complained.
  • Now Gemma fearlessly retorts with every sentence; the curve of her lips was mocking like a hook, making him uncomfortable.
  • He had too many questions to ask, but every time they met, he was too angry to bring up anything important.
  • Jane refused to give up and shouted that she wanted to chase after them, but was reprimanded by Joel.
  • "Brother, I am your sister. What is her identity, and yet she dares to act so rudely?"
  • "Where did you get this bag?" Joel interrupted her, noticing the necklace on her neck. "And this necklace - when did you get it?"
  • "I..." Jane suddenly wilted.
  • "What are you doing, Joel? Your sister is being bullied; why aren't you concerned about that instead of focusing on irrelevant things?" Faith stepped in to smooth things over.
  • "This necklace belongs to Gemma. Did you get her permission to take it?"
  • Joel remembered that in the third year, when his grandmother's health had recovered, his grandmother reminded him to thank her properly, so he had a set of jewelry custom-made for Gemma.
  • "Brother, what are you talking about? Even if Gemma was still alive, I wouldn't need her permission. What right does she have to touch anything in the Summers family? It's all mine."
  • Jane spoke carelessly, and when she saw Joel's expression, she burst into tears as if she had been greatly wronged.
  • "It's just a necklace; even if Gemma was still alive, when would she have the chance to wear such a precious piece of jewelry? You wouldn't take her out." Faith complained, unable to understand why her son suddenly cared about this.
  • Joel hesitated, wanting to say something, but was choked back.
  • "Check the surveillance footage first."
  • Jane panicked when she heard this, and tears streamed down her face. Joel didn't even look at her and went in first. Jane's expression changed, and Faith pulled her along.
  • "This woman is just like Gemma back then, a sly fox..."
  • Faith kept talking, but Joel's black eyes darkened, and his expression was cold. "Shut up!"
  • Jane was startled, and the two exchanged a glance before finally shutting up and following him.
  • The manager had been waiting for him with instructions, and Joel didn't even speak before the manager opened the surveillance video. They could see everything Jane did - every insult and curse she threw around; her bullying manner indicated that she was a habitual offender.
  • This kind of arrogance and bullying wasn't something that could be learned overnight. If she acted like this in public, what was she like at home? In places where he couldn't see her? For example, during the three years when he ignored Gemma, they probably bullied her as a matter of routine.
  • This was how the Summers family treated her. It turned out that not only did he vent his dissatisfaction every day, but the others also took turns humiliating her. These two people were used to bullying others, so once they faced resistance, they would panic and seek outside help, right?
  • Joel couldn't explain his thoughts at the moment; he only felt his blood rushing and his face turning colorful.
  • He couldn't bear to watch anymore. He turned off the video in anger and walked out without saying a word. Faith was frightened by what she saw and quickly followed him.
  • Joel didn't want to listen to her insulting Gemma anymore and glared at her fiercely. "Mom, when Gemma was still here, did you also humiliate her like this?"
  • "How can it be called humiliation? As an elder, I should have educated her like that. If she didn't do well, shouldn't we be able to say it?"
  • Jane's heart trembled. "Brother, what's wrong with you today? Why do you keep mentioning that dead woman? In the past, you always unconditionally sided with us."
  • Joel sneered. He didn't have enough brainpower. He trusted his mother and sister too much.
  • "Go apologize!"
  • "What? Do you want me to apologize to that internet celebrity? Brother, are you kidding me? Don't let me see that bitch. I'll kill her..." Jane started crying and making a scene again.
  • "You can't afford to offend Ian Mason."
