Chapter 12 Joel's Scheme

  • "No."
  • "Then how do you know?"
  • She smiled and said, "Fake things can't be true. Not everyone is easy to fool."
  • Darwin was puzzled. Out of politeness, he didn't want to ask too much, so he could only send her back first. After Gemma got into the car and fastened her seatbelt, she asked him, "Did you have a conflict with Patricia?"
  • "We collaborated on a variety show before. She came to knock on my door at night, you know, but I refused."
  • Gemma raised her eyebrows. Wasn't Patricia trying to become Mrs. Summers? Why would she still want to find someone else?
  • "Not only that, she bullies newcomers on set, oppresses her peers, and has no acting skills but is a drama queen. Her awards were all bought, and she has a lot of dark history."
  • Perhaps feeling like he had said too much, Darwin waved his hand. "Let's not talk about her. She's too repulsive."
  • The car fell silent for a moment. Gemma picked up her phone and saw a message from Leticia. She hadn't replied yet when she felt like the car had hit something.
  • Looking at the car in front of them, it seemed familiar. Sure enough, Brad got out of the driver's seat. Joel also got out from behind.
  • He looked at Gemma sitting inside, and his already cold face became even colder. Darwin didn't expect the rear-end collision to be so coincidental that they hit Joel's car.
  • "Gemma, wait for me." Darwin looked at her. "Are you staying in the car?"
  • Gemma didn't want to meet Joel, so she instructed him, "Mm, don't bother him too much. You go."
  • Darwin was a public figure, and even though there weren't many people in the parking lot at the moment, he was afraid of paparazzi taking pictures. After he got out of the car, he went straight to the point. "Sorry, Mr. Summers, can you take a look at how much it would cost? We'll settle it privately."
  • Joel looked at the woman sitting in the passenger seat with her eyes closed and felt very unhappy. She didn't even want to see him like this. He remembered the time at the art exhibition when she talked happily with the man in front of him, and now he was being stingy with a glance.
  • He knew Darwin, the only son of the Jefferson family. Since Gemma reappeared, everyone around her had not been ordinary. Joel's eyes narrowed as he scrutinized the two people in front of him.
  • His dissatisfaction deepened. "One million."
  • Darwin put away his smile. "Mr. Summers, what do you mean? Is this little scratch worth one million?"
  • "You wanted to settle it privately, didn't you?" Joel sneered. "You can ask the person in the car if my price is too high."
  • After hearing his boss's words, Brad couldn't help but feel that his boss was being unreasonable. He was not pure in his intentions.
  • Darwin frowned. "Mr. Summers, you're not being sincere."
  • "You can also call the police. Then there's no need to settle it privately." Although Joel was speaking to him, his eyes were on the woman in the car the whole time.
  • As an artist, Darwin was afraid of negative influences. Joel knew what Darwin was wary of, so the other party only hesitated for a moment. "Fine, I'll transfer it to you."
  • "You don't need to transfer it. Have her come out and talk."
  • "What do you want? Didn't I promise to pay?" Darwin was also getting angry.
  • "Have her come out and talk, or I'll call the police."
  • Gemma heard their conversation as she got out of the car. They had been here for so long, and it was because Joel refused to let them go. She couldn't avoid it, so she faced it.
  • "Mr. Summers, should we talk?" She gestured for Darwin to go up first. Brad was also smart, so he quickly moved away.
  • "It's our responsibility. How much money does Mr. Summers want to agree to a private settlement?"
  • When Joel saw her coming down, his face had already softened, but when he heard the word "our", his face darkened again.
  • "Answer two questions for me, and you won't have to compensate."
  • Gemma raised her eyebrows. "Go ahead."
  • "How did you escape from the fire back then?" Joel stared into her eyes.
  • "Mr. Summers, you're so all over the place..."
  • "No need to deny it; I know it was you."
  • Gemma looked at him with a cold expression. So Joel stopped her because he suspected she was an arsonist. He lived up to his name; his thought process was always different from that of a normal person!
  • "You said to answer two questions; why are you asking so many at once? Which one do you want me to answer?" She took a step forward and stared straight at him.
  • "I called you, but unfortunately you were too drunk to answer. Joel, even if you want me dead, you have to consider Grandma's life and death. Do you have the right to question me?"
  • "You..."
  • Gemma didn't want to waste any more time with him, so she turned around and prepared to get into the car. "I've already answered. We're even now."
  • Joel wanted to stop her; he didn't even receive her call. What happened? Gemma didn't give him the chance to speak, and as soon as she got in, she let Darwin drive.
  • He checked his call history on his phone and found out that he did indeed talk to Gemma, but he didn't receive the call that day. Patricia signed the first female lead's drama that day, and he went to socialize as an investor. She drank too much during the banquet and dirtied his clothes. Could it be...?
  • He remembered that photo. He was on a business trip in Trayhan and met Patricia at a dinner party. She was so drunk that she threw up after he sent her to her room. He had to clean up, and after he took a shower, Patricia came over to apologize wearing only a bathrobe.
  • Although there was no actual contact between them in the photo, it was still suggestive. In other words, Patricia received a call on the day of the incident but didn't tell him, and she even deleted the call log!
  • Brad suddenly felt a chill. He didn't know what Joel was talking about, but his face looked like he wanted to eat someone. It was scary to look at.
  • Gemma didn't get a good night's sleep. She dreamed of the fire and her childhood and woke up drenched in sweat. She saw that Leticia had sent her several messages, and the last one caught her eye.
  • "I watched the live stream yesterday and felt like that jackass kept looking at you. Could it be that he's having a change of heart? Darwin is handsome and rich, and our families have a long-standing relationship. I know him well, and his family is very reputable. You won't lose to that jackass, that's for sure."
  • Gemma laughed. Even if Darwin was more attractive, she couldn't bring herself to do it. He was an 18- or 19-year-old boy. Leticia had an interesting imagination.
  • Before she could reply, Leticia sent a voice message. She didn't care if Gemma was awake or not. "Quick, look online. The two-faced Patricia is causing trouble again. I'll attach a link casually."
  • Gemma clicked and saw a statement from Patricia. It was lengthy and covered a lot, but overall, it had two meanings.
