Chapter 4 Stunning the Audience
- "Joel, what's wrong? I'm so scared..." Patricia wanted to hug him, but he avoided her and looked at her coldly. "You go back first."
- "I'm sorry, I'm just worried about you and didn't mean to cause you trouble." Patricia burst into tears. "I know you blame me for not being by your side when you needed someone to take care of you. But I had no choice. My parents hid my passport and even sent someone to watch over me. I really couldn't do anything."
- "I took care of you because of Adam, and I never had any other thoughts. I won't have any in the future either." Joel clenched the handle of his suitcase and walked quickly forward. He had survived the accident five years ago, but his good friend Adam Carne disappeared after saving him.
- If it weren't for him, Adam would probably be married with children by now, and the woman in the car - could she be Gemma? Joel felt a hollow feeling in his chest and couldn't express his emotions.
- "Contact the doctor in Yarwells, and we'll go back tomorrow."
- "Okay, boss." Brad followed closely behind. "Today is Miss Quinn's birthday, and I haven't given her a gift yet."
- He took out a jewelry box from his bag. Joel didn't even look at it, and he handed it over to the woman behind him.
- Patricia was caught off guard and almost dropped it. With the delay, she couldn't keep up with Joel's pace in her high heels. She slowed down and opened the box to find a valuable necklace.
- Patricia was overjoyed. Joel was always generous, and the starting price of the haute couture jewelry in this house was five million. This time, she had hit the jackpot.
- After Joel returned to the office, he was greeted with a smile by the people inside. He smiled too.
- "Your face has recovered well, and you look more beautiful than before."
- "Beauty is only skin deep, and it doesn't matter if it's beautiful or not. How is Grandma?"
- "This medicine can control the spread of cancer cells, but it can't cure them. Gemma, unless you can contact your third brother, there may be a miracle. By the way, there was an accident with the dress for the party tonight, and you may have to change it."
- Gemma touched her smooth cheek. The scar left by the fire had healed, but the pain remained in her heart and couldn't be erased.
- "I plan to wear our family's dress and promote the brand. As for my third brother..."
- Ian sighed and patted her shoulder. The third brother had the skill to save lives, but his whereabouts were unknown. It wasn't easy to find him.
- "For safety reasons, I want to arrange two bodyguards for you."
- "Not for now. The fire didn't kill me, and the mastermind behind it may strike again. I have to provoke them even more and catch the snake."
- …
- The Yarwells celebrity banquet was an annual event that almost everyone who had any prestige would attend. Even though bodyguards had set up fences, reporters were still able to sneak in and take pictures.
- After getting out of the car, Joel walked straight into the venue without looking around. He had a noble and elegant aura that made him the center of attention wherever he went. However, the reporters were more interested in his companion.
- Patricia had the backing of the Summers family and had been doing well in the entertainment industry for the past two years. She won two awards for Best Actress without having much acting talent. The two of them attending the event together made headlines, but she was not happy about it.
- Joel did not invite her, but she managed to get an invitation through her uncle. However, she was skilled at confusing people and would not let go of any opportunity to tie herself to him. She intentionally wore the necklace he gave her and made sure the reporters captured it.
- During the three years of trouble, Patricia followed him obediently, and anything could be resolved as long as she mentioned Adam. However, since the death of Gemma, he had become a different person, and she knew she was losing her grip on him. If she didn't try harder to marry into the Summers family, all the glory in front of her would collapse.
- After all the effort she put in, she was not satisfied with just being an actress.
- The organizers warmly greeted them, but there was a commotion at the entrance, and someone said, "Mason's young master is here."
- Ian stepped out of his custom-made Bugatti, which was the only one in the world. Everyone wanted to go over and talk to him. He was truly a noble gentleman, no less impressive than Joel's aloofness.
- "Isn't he the doctor who operated on your grandmother?" Patricia was surprised.
- "Yes, he is also the eldest son of the Mason family."
- Patricia was stunned. Was it the Mason family, with a net worth of tens of billions? She sneered. What a waste of time. He had billions of dollars, but he still chose to be a doctor.
- Strangely, Ian did not walk towards them but went to the other side of the car and opened the door, holding the arm of a woman. The fact that the usually scandal-free young master brought a female companion drew everyone's attention. Gemma was stunning in her dress, and her figure was perfect. Her exquisite makeup made her stand out as soon as she arrived.
- "Which rich family is she the daughter of...?"
- "Lucky enough to catch the eye of Mason's young master. She's fortunate..."
- The banquet hall was magnificent, and the guests were from the upper echelons of society. Not many people knew that Joel was getting married, and even fewer had seen his previous wife. Even though the fire two years ago caused a media frenzy, the public only knew that his wife had passed away.
- Joel's dark eyes sank, and he felt the silence around him. He could even hear his heartbeat when he looked at the woman approaching him, holding Ian's arm gracefully.
- Even though her face had changed, and her voice was a bit hoarse, he recognized her at first glance. He did not know why he was so sure. He had ignored Gemma for the three years of their marriage, but upon meeting her again, he was certain of the familiar feeling, even if it was just her profile.
- Gemma glanced at Patricia, curled her lips, and thought to herself how resourceful she was to have climbed up to her current position. Ian gently held her hand and comforted her with his warmth. "If someone bullies you, fight back. My brother and I will support you; don't be afraid."
- "I'm not the one who should be afraid." Gemma sensed Joel's cold gaze and met it calmly, without any ripples in her heart. She was like a phoenix reborn from the ashes, and nothing could bring her down.
- Joel slowly walked forward, staring at her without blinking. Ian turned to block him.
- "Mr. Summers."
