Chapter 29 Give Her the Best
- Over at Patricia's place, Jane was trembling with fear. When her phone rang, she jumped up, her fingers shaking too much to answer. She was scared by the text message from Joel to the point where she couldn't even hold her phone steadily; it felt like a gust of chilly wind was blowing out from the device.
- "Pat, can you lend me some money...?" Jane wore a mournful expression, and Patricia pretended to console her with kindness, though she was disgusted. Jane treated her like an ATM, always asking for money. She borrowed a few hundred thousand, or even millions, but never paid it back. It was an insatiable demand.
- Though Patricia didn't know why Jane couldn't go back home, she could tell that she had gotten into some big trouble. Patricia patiently explained, "It's not that I don't want to help you, but every time you ask for money, I'm left with less. Plus, my company's money is all invested, and I haven't received any returns yet. My broker will take a big cut of my money."
