Chapter 9 Airborne High-Level

  • Joel's tone was cold and ominous. He had questions to verify and realized that he had ignored many problems that were right in front of him.
  • Jane was still crying, but Faith hesitated and didn't dare to help her speak. This son of the Mason family was extremely low-key; she only found out about him by chance after the old lady's surgery. It turned out that he was the one who performed the surgery.
  • With his status, he could have chosen any socialite in Yarwells, yet he chose an internet celebrity.
  • Jane was still crying when she got into the car. Her brother didn't help, and her mother lost her power. She didn't believe she couldn't find someone to help. She opened WhatsApp, found her contacts, edited a message, and sent it.
  • Joel drove home and went straight to his and Gemma's marital home. The butler saw that his face didn't look well and opened the door, trembling. He opened the safe and found that all the jewelry was missing.
  • The closet was empty. He remembered that on the day of the divorce, Gemma only took her clothes and didn't touch anything else.
  • "Where are my wife's clothes and bags?"
  • The butler was taken aback before realizing who he was referring to. "Madam's used clothes were burned as instructed, and the unused ones were moved to Miss' room."
  • "How did Miss get the safe's password?"
  • "She has always had it. When Madam was still here, Miss often used it, and she never said anything. Young Master, I only did as instructed by Madam. I didn't take anything."
  • Joel didn't know what to say. The butlers were all used to seeing Gemma humiliated over the years. How did she survive? No wonder she was so decisive when she divorced him.
  • Thinking of this, his heart felt like it was stuffed with cotton. He couldn't stay in the marital home any longer.
  • *
  • The next day, Gemma officially started working. Grant accompanied her to familiarize herself with the work environment before returning to the office to rest. Then her phone rang.
  • "That gold-digger, Patricia, is planning an art exhibition to clear her name. I have two tickets and want to go wreck it."
  • "Are you joking with me?"
  • Leticia was anxious. "She invited Joel and his sister as guests. She's afraid that the whole world won't know that she's a third party who has risen to the top. Since the photos were exposed, she hasn't dared to go out. It's shameless to hold an art exhibition to clear her name."
  • Then she added, "It's said that she's Frances Walter's disciple. The teacher's work will be exhibited at the art exhibition. Aren't you interested?"
  • Gemma raised her eyebrows. When did she become Frances' disciple? "Alright, send me the address."
  • "I've arranged a partner for you. Darwin Jefferson will go with you." Leticia was very happy. "It's that red-hot newcomer. Patricia has been wanting to act with him. Let that scum Joel see that all the men who chased after you are better than him."
  • How coincidental? Gemma raised her eyebrows.
  • After hanging up with Leticia, her phone rang again. It was Chris King, the CEO of Orange Entertainment.
  • "Miss Lewis, I've received information that Travis Pratt is willing to pay a high price for your information. Do you want me to handle it?"
  • Gemma took a sip of tea. "No need. He won't find anything. It just so happens that I have a task for you to do."
  • Her slender fingers quickly flew over the keyboard and finally stopped at a series of numbers. The account in which she transferred money to the caregiver was a very mysterious foundation abroad, and the specific account couldn't be traced.
  • She carefully calculated the arson suspect. If it was Patricia, how could she know the foundation? Faith was also very suspicious. Joel's grandmother had always wanted to revoke her stewardship rights and also wanted to take back her shares.
  • She had also sent people to investigate the caregiver's family, but every time there was a clue, someone else would get to it first. The situation became more and more confusing, and it seemed as if someone was invisibly interfering.
  • Ian saw her frowning as soon as she came in and thought she was worried about the company. He comforted her, saying, "Do you want Leticia to be your assistant? There will be a lot of work when you officially take office."
  • "She has several companies to manage and is very busy. Forget it. You can see her anytime you want. We don't have to live under the same roof." Gemma teased. Leticia came from a prominent family, and it would be best if Ian could be with her. She was also equally beautiful, and he had a unique poetic charm. His ethereal aura made it hard to distinguish between male and female, often making people feel that he did not belong in the mortal world.
  • Ian indulgently pinched her face and gave her a car key. "I've booked a new car for you to commute with. Try it out after work."
  • Leticia sent an invitation, and Gemma couldn't help but sigh. She remembered that before the divorce from Joel, she had wanted to tell him her true situation. Who knew that Patricia would come back and keep provoking her? Joel gave her the divorce agreement again and said nothing in the end. It was unpredictable.
  • During her first year in the Summers family, she wanted to have a good birthday party. Jane created a group chat for everyone who received her invitation, and they all made fun of her for not knowing her place.
  • They said all sorts of nasty things, and Jane even took screenshots and posted them on her stories, causing others to follow suit and say they wouldn't go. They mocked her for trying to imitate others with the invitation, and the whole circle saw her as a joke for thinking she was the Summers family's lady.
  • Thinking back to the past, Gemma frowned. Leticia sent another message. "Patricia, that two-faced woman, was supposed to co-host the art exhibition with Darwin. His grandfather is a master at repairing ancient paintings and ceramics in the industry. She has tried to visit him many times but has always been ignored."
  • "Let her see that before, she couldn't invite him, and now she can't get Darwin." Gemma looked at the invitation with a smile that wasn't quite a smile. She had never noticed before, but Joel and Patricia seemed quite compatible.
  • Shortly after, Ian took her to the company's high-level meeting to formally introduce her to the job. Suddenly, there was an extra vice president who was not from their family, and there were many discussions and objections within the company.
  • The one who opposed it the most was the marketing director, Karen Violett. She had already paved her way, but she was just waiting for her to be officially appointed. Ian blatantly showed favoritism, which made her anxious.
  • Karen investigated and found that Gemma had lived abroad for many years and that nothing else was known about her. She could only say that Ian had protected her very well, and she couldn't swallow this anger.
  • "I'm not targeting anyone, but the company has always adhered to the principles of openness and fairness. Competition is based on ability. We know nothing about Miss Lewis, and the company's decision is too hasty. I disagree!" She couldn't contain herself at the meeting and was the first to speak up.
  • Ian shrugged and spoke in a cold tone, "The decision of the senior management does not require your approval. Director Karen, if you don't want to stay, you can resign. Now, let's approve it."
  • The conference room was so quiet that anyone could hear a pin drop. Karen's face turned red, and she didn't dare to refute anything, feeling embarrassed and ashamed. Ian's sharp gaze swept over her with the oppressive feeling of an eagle approaching with sword-like precision.
  • Karen had paid a great price to reach this position, and it would be difficult to find such good benefits if she left. She couldn't leave, but Ian was willing to fire the director of the company for a new love interest, leaving her with no face to show!
