Chapter 5 Hand-Torn Green Tea

  • "It's rare to have Dr. Mason here. And who is this?" He reached out to shake hands, but his gaze was still fixed on Gemma.
  • "Mr. Summers, nice to meet you." She didn't avoid it and smiled openly.
  • After three years of marriage, Joel had never taken her to any occasion, nor did he know that she could smile so brightly. His ex-wife, at this moment, was like a shining pearl, pleasing to the eye.
  • This woman, shining with such radiance, was full of charm but also unfamiliar.
  • Joel remembered the big fire, and his heart was stinging. She must have suffered a lot to survive.
  • But why was she with Ian?
  • Upon closer inspection, Ian was a master in the industry, but his personality was unpredictable, and he did things according to his preferences. He couldn't even get the other side to agree to Joel's grandmother's surgery, but she later agreed on her own.
  • It turned out that Gemma had known him for a long time.
  • Joel's gaze became complicated, with a hint of anger in his eyes. Gemma looked at him mockingly.
  • The exchange of glances between the two was not something that others could understand. The way they looked at each other conveyed a message that made Patricia very embarrassed.
  • "You don't even know what kind of place this is. Anyone can come. The threshold for this party is getting lower and lower."
  • This was a pointed remark. Joel frowned, and Ian coldly took over the conversation. "Who are you?"
  • Patricia was stunned and sourly explained, "I am Mr. Summers' companion. He invited me."
  • Joel stood there coldly, without any intention of defending her.
  • Gemma sneered, "The actress has a wide range of acquaintances from all walks of life. I've never heard of a socialite who had to struggle to get where she is today."
  • Patricia wanted to refute, but when she caught Ian's cold gaze and saw that Joel did not support her, she didn't dare to speak.
  • "The threshold for this party is indeed very low. Anyone can get in. Even ghosts and snakes can mix in. Although Miss Quinn is an actress, she should still pay attention to her cultivation. Mr. Summers, don't you agree?"
  • Gemma didn't want to waste any more time with them, so she took Ian to another corner.
  • Patricia was used to being praised and flattered, and no one dared to ridicule her face-to-face. At that moment, her eyes were teary, and she felt wronged.
  • "Joel..."
  • Joel's face was as cold as water as he watched Gemma's carefree departure, feeling inexplicably angry. She made him dizzy in the parking lot that day, but today she pretended not to know him.
  • Ian's attitude towards her was not ordinary. What was the relationship between the two?
  • While everyone was toasting Joel, Patricia saw Gemma alone in the garden and quickly followed her.
  • She came here to catch a big fish and was lucky enough to deceive Ian. After entering such a high-end venue, how dare she offend her?
  • Patricia looked at her with a gloomy face and saw that Gemma had stopped near the fountain, seemingly admiring the scenery.
  • "You must have put in a lot of effort to seduce Dr. Mason."
  • Gemma slowly turned around. She knew that Patricia would follow her, and she saw her expression change from tearful to ruthless and calculating.
  • At this instant, Gemma was still impressed by the sudden change in attitude. In the future, she would be the first to not believe anyone who said the actress had bad acting skills.
  • "You women who fish for men are quite calculating. The more powerful the man you're with, the higher your status. Even if you break up with Dr. Mason, you probably already have your next target lined up for events like these."
  • Gemma looked at her with eyes colder than the night sky. The name "Patricia" was one that she heard the most in her three years of marriage, and she found it difficult to forget.
  • So this was the type that Joel liked?
  • Gemma nodded. "So you came to this event with this purpose in mind? If Joel doesn't work out, you can always find someone else. You've cast a wide net."
  • "Joel and I are childhood sweethearts. Our relationship cannot be compared to that of ordinary people. Does reputation outweigh emotions? And you and I are different. Will Dr. Mason marry you when Joel marries me?"
  • As Patricia spoke, she examined Gemma, her heart filled with envy. Gemma had a foxy and charming face, and the woman before her was no match for her.
  • "Don't get too proud of yourself just because you have some looks. Show some respect for your elders and know your place. Today, I'll give you a lesson on how to behave."
  • As Patricia spoke, she approached Gemma with a malicious glint in her eye.
  • Gemma raised an eyebrow and watched as Patricia retreated and fell into the fountain, screaming.
  • She watched the other woman act out her drama with indifference, suddenly realizing that shortly after she got married, Jane and her friends had conspired against her in the same way.
  • "You want to become Mrs. Summers; you want to be my sister-in-law. I'll let you see what your true identity is. Just watch; I can take on anyone, and you'll see who my brother will favor."
  • Jane had found a rich woman's daughter and accused Gemma of pushing her into the pool, proving that no one liked Mrs. Summers.
  • She failed to move Joel's heart and ended up losing miserably.
  • History was repeating itself, and Patricia was demonstrating to her what it meant to be unable to defend oneself.
  • Sure enough, someone arrived soon after, and Gemma raised her eyelids. If it wasn't Joel, then who else could it be?
  • Without hesitation, he jumped in, pulling Patricia out of the water.
  • Patricia was shivering in the man's arms, her lips turning purple. "Joel, don't blame this young lady. She didn't push me in on purpose."
  • The spectators whispered to each other about Gemma.
  • Ian, who had heard the news, also arrived. He furrowed her brows slightly and nodded at Gemma.
  • Looking at Joel's accusing gaze, Gemma's lips curled with a hint of sarcasm.
  • "Is there no originality left? Is this how an actress treats her fans?"
  • Glancing at the nearly exposed Patricia, the mockery in her eyes grew stronger. "Mr. Summers, it would be better if you covered her with your coat. If you want to be Mrs. Summers, you can't be too rude."
  • Joel's face grew darker, but before he could speak, Patricia suddenly stood up and kneeled in front of Gemma.
  • "Miss, I don't know where I offended you. If I spoke out of line earlier, I apologize. I know you're Mr. Mason's person. I was ignorant and couldn't tell what I should or shouldn't say. I'll change. Really, please don't blacklist me. I was wrong..."
  • Patricia wept as she spoke, and the expressions of those present became more complex. The fact that Ian brought a female companion showed that this woman was quite favored.
  • "But Patricia also has the support of Joel, who is also of the level of the Best Actress. She had to kneel and beg like a little maid. Everyone's eyes on Gemma became strange. She's so arrogant now; she needs to marry into a wealthy family."
  • Joel never expected Patricia to lose her composure like this. While everyone was discussing it, they saw that Gemma's eyes became resolute, and without hesitation, she slapped Patricia heavily.
