Chapter 4 Stoopid Nerd

  • “Huh, stupid.”
  • Though those words came out from him almost inaudibly, still, I still can hear it. He gave me a grin after scanning me from head to toe. I bit my inner lips as I slightly tightened my grip on Lizzy's hand. What the hell is this man doing here?
  • “Damon, meet my teacher,” Lizzy introduced me to the man whom I'd made a mistake earlier in the cafe.
  • He just smiled. A kind of smile that hides judgment in it. “Nice to meet you, Teacher?” he cut off, asking for my name.
  • At first, I hesitated to answer but then he held his hand. I accepted it and answered, “Serena.”
  • “That's explained, Siren.”
  • Hearing that name come out from his lips gives me instant goosebumps. It feels so uncomfortable but at the same time, why does it also sound so sexy when he says that disgusting name of mine?
  • “How long are you tutoring my sister?” I glanced at Lizzy's brother standing right beside me while we were both watching Lizzy having fun in the pool.
  • “Me?” I asked, late for me to realize it was a stupid question.
  • “No, I mean me,” there, the sarcastic tone in his voice. “Of course, I am asking you, nerd.”
  • What? Nerd? Did he just call me a nerd?
  • “Almost a month,” I replied instead, with patience. My temper won't do me good if I go against what he just said.
  • “Is she good?”
  • “Well, yes. She's a brilliant girl and talented as well–”
  • “Just like me,” he cut me off with his proud words. I rolled my eyes, stopping my chuckle from slipping out from my lips.
  • He really is arrogant, and too proud of himself.
  • “What's your name again, Nerd?”
  • It got me this time. I turned on him, with displeasing looks written on my face. “It's Serena… Albert, stop calling me a nerd, Sir.”
  • “Well, Ms.Albert, your name doesn't suit you neither the name Siren. Four-eyed tutor like you is better to be called.”He stopped, rudely scanning me from head to toe just like earlier. And then again, a haughty grin showed on his lips.
  • “Ms. Stoopid Nerd, that's suits you well.”And with that, he turned his back on me, leaving my jaw hanging in disbelief.
  • Stoopid Nerd? The heck!
  • ***
  • “Teacher, you're spacing out!” Lizzy snapped, dragging me back from my senses.
  • I looked at my student clueless.
  • “I said I'm done. Can you check it now?”I looked at her paper and saw it was really done.
  • Gracious, I'm spacing out. Thinking about her egotistic brother and the words he just said to me earlier. Yeah, I may look like a nerd with this outfit but my inner self can't just accept those words. I'm not a nerd for goodness’ sake.
  • I just checked Lizzy's paper and realized that it's almost six in the evening. I helped her pack her things before going downstairs with her. At the receiving area, I saw her brother. Back turned in our direction, busy watching a television. My eyes couldn't help but to notice the tattoo on his nape. A serpent around an apple. A sinful representation. My eyes then traveled to his broad and firm shoulder, showing on his black sando. Even when his not moving, it seems flexing. The muscles in them look so hard and toned–
  • “Done checking me out, Nerdy?”That caught me, dragging me back to the reality.
  • Heat instantly spread throughout my cheeks as I roamed my eyes and realized that he was now facing me and Lizzy. With his domineering eyes settled on me.
  • I bit my lips, embarrassed for what just happened. How dare I to check him out boldly?!
  • I looked away, ignoring what he had said. I looked down at Lizzy, who was still beside me and bid goodbye. But the child even insisted and invited me to join them for their dinner.
  • I side-glance at her brother. He seems waiting for my answer and obviously, he's waiting for me to decline his sister's offer. Of course, I will. If it's not because of his presence, I would love to join their family's dinner just like the some time. Me having dinner with a family I didn't belong to.
  • “Uhm… I can't, Lizzy. Teacher still has work to do, I should go now,” I answered instead, which made my student pout and let go of my hand.
  • That breaks my heart a little. This is the first time I ever declined her offer.
  • “Your teacher is right, Lizz,” her brother butt in, taking Lizzy's hand with his eyes focused on me.
  • Just on me.
  • “She has to leave.”
  • As if, I will stay.
  • “Then, I’ll see you tomorrow, Teacher Si–”
  • “Serena,” again, it's her brother, cutting her off.
  • I awkwardly smiled at his correction. “I'll be early tomorrow, Lizzy.”
  • “You promised me that you would teach me how to dance right?”
  • I gulped. Dance? Did I just promise it?
  • “Dance, huh?” a mumbled.
  • I glanced at him and there I saw the mocking smile on his lips.
  • Excuse me? I can dance… of course, I can.
  • I drew steps towards Lizzy and when I was close enough to her, I bent down, leveling my face on hers. A smile showed on my lips before patting her head and messing with her hair a little.
  • “Teacher never breaks promise, right?” I said, intentionally throwing an upward glance at his brother.
  • I drew backward. “You could be an audience, Sir,” I added not knowing that in the next day, he really ended up being my audience.
