Chapter 17 What Happened?

• Mariah laid the man she carried on top of his coffin. It was obvious he was in a deep sleep and she found herself wondering how long he shall sleep and what she should be doing during the time. She can’t stay there with him till he recovers, her people would come looking for her and if they happen to find him like that, knowing her father and brother, they would decide to kill him off now that he wasn’t a threat.
• She sat beside him on the coffin, staring at him while biting her nails. What should she do? How should she play this? The more she thought about it, the more confused she became and she ended up pacing around the cave and soon, the first light of the day flitted into the cave. She went outside and saw the sun was rising. She had been awake all night, watching him and thinking on what to do. However, now she must go home, she has to or if her mother notices she was absent, she would raise alarm.
• She went back to the cave and inspected the unconscious man. Despite sleeping for hours, there was no change in his appearance. He still looked so pale and weak and his breathing was still faint and his heartbeats low. She slowly reached forward and touched his forehead, and was surprised to find that his body was cold, very cold.
