Chapter 46

• I woke up before Jake did and while it wasn’t any achievement, I found myself grinning about it. He seemed so peaceful when he was asleep, and he looked half his age. He didn’t have the kind of stress that he usually did on his shoulders when awake. I couldn’t stop myself from reaching out to brush a stray strand of hair from his face. He mumbled something incoherent under his breath before gently running his hands up my bare thighs. It was cuter that he didn’t even realize that he was doing it.
• After staring at him for what felt like an unusual amount of time, I forced myself to my feet and pulled on his shirt that was lying on the floor. It fell to the middle of my thighs and I figured that was good enough to go downstairs and start on breakfast. I had momentarily forgotten that Kate was around until I bumped into her in the kitchen.
• She had a glass of water in her hands and thankfully, she didn’t drop it. she just stared at me for a second and blinked. My cheeks burned when I realized that I was in her uncle’s shirt and was completely naked underneath, not to mention the hickies that he had left on my neck last night. I opened my mouth to defend myself but no words would come out. I wanted the ground to open up and swallow me.
