Chapter 43

• I was barely able to sleep last night. I managed to shut my eyes around four but I was up by six. I couldn’t think, couldn’t focus because I had no idea what today was going to hold. For the first time in my life, I was confused and I didn’t know what to do. For the first time in my life, I had been bested.
• There was a knock on my door and I looked up as grandpa walked in. “Your dad sent a text, he said you don’t have to come in for work today.”
• I snorted. “Is that his way of trying to apologize? Or is that his way of trying to keep me away.”
