Chapter 7 They're Caught More With A Fly Swatter!

  • Liam turned to look at her with wide eyes, it was obvious he was on the verge of exploding.
  • "Don't get involved in this," he snapped, and she raised an eyebrow.
  • "That's right, stay out of it!" the girl sniffed, and Max's blood boiled.
  • "I've seen scenes that would turn anyone's stomach, but a woman literally crying at a man's feet is the worst of all. Get up from there, it's not a good look!" Max growled at the girl, and she looked at him as if he were stupid.
  • Liam clenched his lips and tried to lift the girl.
  • "Leave her, I'll take care of her myself," he responded with a growl, but he was taken aback when Max sat in a chair in front of them and crossed her legs. "What are you doing?"
  • "Watching how you handle things," she replied coldly.
  • The girl sobbed a little more, but Liam pulled her to her feet.
  • "Max, this is Sisi, my former assistant," he murmured uncomfortably. "Don't worry about her, she'll leave."
  • "No, I'm not leaving! How could you do this to me?" the girl exclaimed, reproaching Liam and stomping the floor petulantly. "I thought you cared! I thought you felt something for me!"
  • Max rolled her eyes.
  • "Damn it, why does it have to be so difficult?" she whispered to herself and snapped her fingers in front of the girl.
  • "Hey, wake up, sweetheart! He doesn't care about anyone but himself! Not you, not me, not the next one. Got it? So consider this a favor and get out of here."
  • "You don't tell me what to do, you b...!" The girl had turned towards Max with the intention of causing a scene, but she couldn't even start to offend her. Suddenly Liam saw her start convulsing and fall to the ground unconscious.
  • "That's right, you look prettier when you're quiet," Max sighed, and Liam was shocked to see the stun gun in her hand.
  • "You...? You...? You...? You electrocuted her!?" he shouted.
  • Max walked towards him still holding the taser and put her hands on her hips threateningly.
  • "Let's get one thing straight, dear husband," she warned coldly, standing on tiptoe to look him in the eyes. "I won't tolerate any woman whimpering near you, let alone being your wife. So I advise you to behave very well if you don't want me to put you to sleep too."
  • "You're a damn crazy woman! You're wearing a straitjacket!" he snapped angrily.
  • "Relax, I have no problem with you putting it on me... or taking it off."
  • Liam turned away angrily and called the building's medical staff to take the girl away, while he sat behind his desk looking aggrieved.
  • "I have to work, and I'm not going to do it with a crazy person in here, so do me the damn favor of getting out of my office!" he hissed under his breath, and Max looked around.
  • Behind Liam there was a large window, but there was no building tall enough for at least a mile around, so there was no danger of a sniper.
  • He smiled enigmatically and left, taking the opportunity to explore the rest of the floor. However, an hour later, when Max entered Liam's office again, he found it empty and only a note on the desk.
  • It wasn't even a note, it was just a drawing of a hand showing the middle finger. She had escaped!
  • Max growled as he turned around and found himself face to face with Garret Grisson.
  • "You let her escape, didn't you?" he laughed as Max blushed with anger. "I warned you it wouldn't be easy..."
  • "Don't worry, it's not like I can't track her down," the girl grunted, heading for the door.
  • "Max! Have you heard that you catch more flies with honey than with vinegar?" Grissom stopped her and Max remained silent for a few seconds before leaving.
  • It was stupid to protect someone without telling them the truth, but ultimately it was what kept her out of jail.
  • Meanwhile, Liam had managed to slip away with the help of Alexis, and they were both sitting in a bar that luckily opened early.
  • "Isn't it too early to drink?" Alexis teased when they were served two double shots.
  • "Believe me, I need it. I feel like an evil voice is following me and giving me orders all the time..."
  • "Are you possessed?"
  • "Worse..." murmured an older man sitting at the bar next to them. "He's probably married!"
  • The laughter of the two filled the bar and Alexis shook her head condescendingly.
  • "Hey, you've only been with her for a day. It can't be that bad."
  • "She electrocuted Sisi!" Liam exclaimed, widening his eyes. "She's insane! I can't do this! She's... she's...!"
  • Liam had a lot of unkind adjectives to say, while Max rolled her eyes at a table behind them. The truth was that she had no intention of getting involved in the conversation, but suddenly her peripheral vision caught something: a couple of guys heading towards Liam and, if she wasn't mistaken, one of the faces looked familiar.
  • She crossed the few meters separating her from Liam in a second and threw her arms around his neck.
  • "Come on, darling, your friend is right, I can't be that bad..." she said in his ear as he stood petrified and Alexis held back laughter. "Come, let me make it up to you for the rough time I put you through..."
  • She pulled his hand towards the bathroom and locked the door behind them. Her mouth crashed against Liam's and he swore he raised his hands as if surrendering. The woman's mouth was demanding and flirtatious, the second of doubt died in him when he felt her press against his body. He surrounded her with his arms, caressing her buttocks with a gesture of desire. She was delicious, crazy but delicious, and that was a fatal combination.
  • "Have you calmed down now?" she whispered to him as soon as she could separate their lips.
  • Liam simply nodded, unable to speak or think or do anything other than kiss her. Max smiled and kissed him again, more gently this time.
  • He could say it was a sacrifice, but the truth was that kissing that man was absurdly pleasant.
  • "We better go," Max said, remembering that there were men outside who wanted Liam. "What do you think about escaping?"
  • She pulled Liam's arm, dragging him through corridors until they reached one of the back doors of the bar.
  • "No, Max, wait," Liam quickly said, stopping her. "We can't just leave like this..."
  • "More flies are caught with honey than with vinegar," she remembered Garret Grissom's words, but her subconscious betrayed her: "More are caught with a fly swatter!"
  • Still, she needed Liam to move because those men would soon come out of the bar as well. She cornered him against one of the alley walls and gave him a mysterious smile.
  • "I'm not done with you yet..."
