Chapter 6 A Dangerous Woman

  • "I hate you. I hate you so much..." growled Liam.
  • But he hadn't even made it to the bed when the first flashes began to illuminate the room.
  • "What the hell is this?!" Max sat up in bed and tugged at his hair in frustration. "What is this madness?"
  • Liam approached to open the curtains and saw all the journalists waiting outside the house.
  • "What the hell makes them think they have the right to our privacy?" she growled, completely beside herself.
  • "We're not strangers," he murmured, looking out the window, and she was left speechless. "Damn! This will always be like this..."
  • Max gritted her teeth, with so many vultures fluttering around, she wouldn't be able to do her job properly. And she wasn't going to allow that!
  • "Wanna bet?" she hissed and got out of bed, walking decisively out of the room.
  • Liam ran after her, because she looked quite crazy, and followed her to the garage.
  • "You... what are you going to do?" he asked, watching her inspect the pressure washers.
  • "I have insomnia, I'm going to clean the garden. Are you coming?"
  • Max pulled one of the machines and Liam had no idea what she was going to do, but he grabbed another one and followed her. He saw her connect hoses that he didn't even know what they were for, and a second later she stood in front of the entrance gate and activated her machine.
  • The jet of water pressure pushed back the first journalist, and after that, there was a crowd of people running in front of them to escape the water.
  • Liam's face was first of surprise, but then he activated his own machine and joined in the fun. He couldn't deny that it was fun.
  • "This is private property! Get out!" Max shouted as she moved the machine as if it were a machine gun.
  • Ten minutes later they were also soaked, but there were no journalists in sight.
  • "I hate you... but at least you're fun," Liam declared, following her back into the house.
  • But as he walked behind her, he noticed that one of the stains from her footprints on the white floor was not from water and mud.
  • "Hey, hey!" he exclaimed, lifting her up in his arms, and Max held onto his neck, tense. "You're bleeding."
  • Max looked down at the floor, seeing the stain.
  • "No... I hadn't noticed."
  • Liam carried her to the bathtub in his room and sat her on the edge, turning on the faucet and cleaning it...
  • "It's not a wound, is it... did you scrape the sole of your foot?"
  • Max remembered running barefoot on the asphalt to escape while being shot at, but she just shrugged.
  • "It's nothing, it doesn't hurt. Let's just go to sleep."
  • Liam sighed, but nodded and helped her out of the bathtub. He tucked her into bed and headed to the door to go sleep in another room. He didn't want to be too close to her after all.
  • "Hey! Come to bed and don't argue, you'll sleep here until I say so!" Max growled at him, and Liam looked at her with hatred.
  • He couldn't stand the idea of sleeping alone with a woman, but the truth was he was so tired that he barely laid his head on the pillow before falling asleep.
  • However, he woke up alone in bed the next morning, wondering where she had gone. He got up and went to the living room, where he found her already dressed, bathed, and watching TV.
  • "Hello," Max said, "you looked tired so I didn't want to wake you up."
  • "Someone woke up in a good mood," he grumbled.
  • "Of course, look at these headlines," Max replied, pointing to the TV. Liam read the caption under a photo of the two of them.
  • "THE BEST WAY TO START A HONEYMOON: The Grissom spouses have fun kicking journalists off their property."
  • "The keyword is 'tender'! They think we're tender! Can you believe it?" Max laughed. "Well, husband, what are we going to do today?"
  • Liam frowned and looked at her as if she were a talking dog.
  • "Well, I'm going to work and you... I suppose you can stay here and pray for all your sins," he replied, walking to the kitchen to get coffee.
  • "No, no, no, no... I'm going with you."
  • "No, you're not! I have to work! I'm not going to have you as a vase in my office!" he growled.
  • "I'm a very pretty vase, I won't bother you... I'll just read magazines and hang around..."
  • Liam became desperate. If having sex was the best part, being pursued by a woman was definitely the worst. And at that moment, he had none of the good and all of the bad.
  • "You're not going, damn it! I'm not going to have a woman stuck to me in the office like a tick!" he snapped, but Max grabbed a frying pan by the handle and pointed it at him.
  • "I'm not a woman! I'm your damn wife! And you better have me like a tick, because at least close to you, I'm controllable! Did you hear me!? Don't see what I'm capable of when I'm ownerless!"
  • Liam gritted his teeth, but left the kitchen to go get dressed. He was starting the day in a foul mood, and nothing could fix that.
  • Half an hour later, they were heading to the company's office building and everyone greeted them excitedly and congratulated them on their wedding.
  • Liam took the first opportunity to slip away from her, and since Max knew he was safe in his office, he took the chance to sneak into Mr. Grissom's office.
  • "Max... I hope my son isn't giving you too much trouble," the man smiled when he saw her, as he had really liked the morning headlines.
  • "Not too much, your boy is quite well trained," Max replied before placing a sheet of paper with a list in front of him.
  • "Did you like the house?"
  • "It is appropriate and easy to defend," she admitted. "But I need all this to work... and two trusted men, I will choose them myself."
  • Old Grissom read the list and nodded.
  • "You will have all this by the end of the day..."
  • "Oh! One more thing. The army has a contract with a laboratory, and they have been making graphene armored vests, so far they are only prototypes, but I am sure that you and the General have many connections. It is a flexible, micro-ventilated, ergonomic and ultra-thin armor. I need you to get me two, I will send you the measurements."
  • She left without saying another word, and headed to Liam's office, only to find the most disgustingly touching scene she had ever seen in her life: A girl sitting on the floor, clinging to Liam's leg, crying inconsolably, while her newlywed husband was red with frustration.
  • "Do I have to water this one too?!" Max hissed.
