Chapter 30 Benedict?
- "Adelaide spent three days in that place," Irene continues when she realizes that Egil isn't responding. "Why do you allow her to receive such degrading treatment in this house? She's your wife, Egil, Mrs. Arrabal, the most important woman in the family."
- "She's none of those things you mentioned, Aunt," Egil's response leaves Irene stunned. "I forbid you to interfere in my affairs with her and the treatment she receives by my orders. That woman is nobody here and will never be. She's just the substitute Bahram Valencia sent me to remedy Nadia's dishonor. She has no surname here, she's nobody, and any servant is worth more than her," Egil's voice sounds so cold and bitter that it manages to send shivers down his aunt's spine.
- Egil vents his frustrations from these days by ranting against Adelaide. While his anger and pain are real, many of his claims are not, but it's obvious that he will never back down, even though she truly matters to him.
