• "What? Do you know something that I don't?" she said accusingly. Of course, she knew something; she recognized that insinuating but "innocent" tone very well.
• "While you were 'suffering' in the Caribbean on those dream vacations, we saw each other several times. We went to the movies, bowling, you know, what we used to do before he left," he reminded her, pausing to gauge her level of anxiety. He loved making her wait; he knew she wanted to know too badly what they had been talking about.
