Chapter 139 For Two Days
- Victoria knew she was right. She was trying not to argue with Matt, even though she had every reason to be upset. Christie had insisted on showing up at every event they attended together, just to make Victoria feel out of place. Now that they were officially engaged, Victoria had to bite her tongue to avoid drawing attention to her temper—and Matt hadn't done much to help either. Christie knew how to flaunt her status as a rich girl, using her father as a shield so Matt wouldn't put her in her place. Unfortunately, this made Victoria feel belittled and walked over.
- Then there was Katie, who kept trying to get involved in their relationship. She was the one who told Victoria that she and Matt had met in Washington on that trip, which apparently hadn't been all work. In a moment of weakness, Matt had resorted to the hotel bar and ended up in Katie's room. That moment was still a blank for him—he couldn't remember what had happened in that room. The thought that something might have happened was killing him. If Victoria found out, she would leave him. He couldn't get that idea out of his head, which was why he was trying to make her forget that conversation.
- Because of the guilt that wouldn't leave him, every night he slept holding onto Victoria. Every day, the idea of being away from her became more unbearable. He needed her; he wanted her in his life. Around 11 in the morning, Doris arrived at the room with a tray of breakfast. Matt was in the shower, so she was the one who woke Victoria up.
