Chapter 5
- Going back to his apartment with the now sleeping child, Liam tried to think of how he will come up with what to do with the child, no one seemed to believe him when he said he wasn't the father, he couldn't believe what was happening, he had so much to do, he had been able to set up a hidden camera and a listener close to the marina where he suspected was where the gamblers and probably the drug dealers were based, he wasn't totally sure but he had asked a few of the locals and they had told him that place was a no go area, a tracker and a camera there will help him get at least a lead, but with a baby, in hand, he didn't know what he will do and he wasn't bad enough to leave a child on her own.
- "I just need to get someone to help until I can find a permanent solution,"
- He said out loud, he thought of taking the child to the city to either of his sisters or mom, they will gladly care for her but what if the child's mother comes back for her, ruling out the thought of taking her out of the island, another option was to look for a nanny for her in the island, he sat down with her still in his arms, she did a yawn in tiny and opened her eyes, she had beautiful baby eyes, she looked at him with what looked to him like eyes questioning who he was and if she could trust him.
- "Hey, beautiful, don't worry you are safe with me, and I am a pro at babysitting,"
- He whispered to her even though he knew she wouldn't understand, he was indeed a pro at babysitting, his older siblings all had kids, he had ten nieces and nephews and he babysat about five of them, though he hadn't been around when some were born, each time he came home he made sure to bond with them.
- The little one yawned again, he sensed that she would be hungry so he dropped her gently on the bed.
- "I am just going to go get your food, be a good girl, and don't cry okay?"
- He said and hurriedly went to the kitchen to make her formula, she seemed to have listened to him because she didn't cry, when he fed her the food, she ate, after feeding her, he bathed her and tried to rock her back to sleep but she didn't fall asleep, she just kept looking at him with those big, curious baby eyes.
- "Baby, you have to sleep, uncle has to work,"
- He pleaded but she didn't listen so he dropped her on the bed expecting her to cry but she didn't, she just started kicking her legs in the air.
- "Okay, I can work with this,"
- He said smiling at her, he got his laptop out sat on the bed close to her, and opened it, checking the camera, there was still no movement, nothing, but he was sure something would come up, he just have to be at alert, his phone rang, he looked at the caller and rolled his eyes
- "Mom,"
- "Son, you didn't even think of calling home, how are doing? Is that place liveable, do you need anything?"
- "Mom, I am fine,"
- "Are you sure? I don't know why you choose to do something so dangerous when you can just stay with us and take over as CEO, you are so st..."
- "Mom!"
- He called cutting off her ranting.
- "I am doing well here and it's not dangerous,"
- "That's what you said and you almost got killed last time, I don't know why you are bent on giving me and your dad a heart attack, you have had your adventure, it's time to take up the family business, your sisters and their husband can't do it alone when you are supposed to be the head,"
- "Mom, I am not the head of anything, I am not even your oldest child, in case you have forgotten, I am the youngest,"
- "I didn't forget just like I didn't forget you are also the only male child that we have,"
- "My sisters all have husbands,"
- "They do, but it's different,"
- "Mom, just stop it, this is what I want to do, we talked about it remember?"
- "Yeah we did, but you also promised not to do anything dangerous but you are doing just that,"
- "Mom, there is nothing dangerous here,"
- At least he hasn't seen anything dangerous, except for the fact that his phone almost got stolen on the first day here and also the fact that a baby got dropped off at his doorstep, the island seemed pretty much normal, okay, not really, but still not dangerous as his mom thought, she just wanted him home and living off them which he doesn't want.
- "Mom, I promise there is nothing here really, I just came to investigate, I am not doing anything dangerous,"
- "I don't believe you, you are the same person that lied to us while almost dying, there is nothing that you will say that will make me believe you except you come back home,"
- "Mom, I can't do that now, I have a job to do,"
- He said already tired of saying the same thing over and over again, he looked at the baby and she looked like she was going to cry soon, he gently patted her and discovered that her body was getting warmed.
- "Mom, I have got to go, I will call you soon,"
- He said hanging up before she could protest.
- "Hey baby, what's going on?"
- He asked lifting her to examine her properly, she didn't look like she had a fever and besides, the nurses checked her earlier and she was okay.
- The rest of the day was spent looking at the camera and also feeding her and making sure her temperature didn't rise beyond that, at about six pm he suddenly heard noises from the listener he set at the marina, it seemed like people were finally there, he moved closer to his laptop and wore his headset to listen to what they were saying, two men entered the house both dressed in black, he couldn't make out their faces because of the angle of the camera, before long, more about six others joined them, and they moved away from there he had set the camera, he sat there for more than thirty minutes trying to get a hold of what they were on about but he couldn't hear what they were saying and thought it would be best to go over there, since it wasn't far from his apartment and see if he could get anything or maybe even gain entrance, the kid was fast asleep so he could go and just get a clue of what they are saying and come back, he decided to check on her before leaving which he was glad he did because when he laid his hands on her, she was super hot, he quickly checked to make sure that she was still breathing, cursing himself for not checking on her for the past thirty minutes, when he carried her up, she started crying, he tried his best to make her stop crying but nothing worked and her body became even hotter, he needed to go over to the Marine as this might be his quickest chance to get the information he needed but he couldn't leave a sick child alone, he stared at the camera where more men were entering the house and looked back at the crying hot child, he made his descision, leaving his apartment with the crying child in hand...
