• Throughout the duration of the limo ride, there was a prevailing sense of quietness. Polly and Mason had made the decision to drive themselves to the ball, as a precautionary measure, in case either we or they had the desire to leave before the event concluded. While seated on one side of the limo, Nick smoked a cigarette as he fixated his gaze on the passing scenery outside the window.
• Translation: he was torturing me with the whole “watch me make love to this cigarette while I ignore you” vibe he had gone on.
