- The beating finally came to an end, and I heaved a sigh of relief upon realising that he had given up. I had just started to lower myself to the ground when I heard what sounded like a strangled battle cry coming from the opposite side of the door. This was immediately followed by a loud crash against the door, which sent me tumbling forwards. I was able to get myself back on my hands and knees, and as I did so, I whipped my head around to look at the light that had entered the room from the hallway.
- Nick was standing in the middle of the doorway with his arms dangling at his sides. His shoulders were moving up and down as he took in and exhaled heavily. Even though a shadow had fallen across his front, I was still able to make out the threatening expression that was on his face. He gave off a menacing impression.
