Chapter 38
- Jeri knew she should be sleeping, but her mind wouldn’t settle. Her nerves were so strung out from the last day she wasn’t sure she was ever going to relax again. They’d found Elyas’ child and her mother. What would that feel like for him? After thinking for so long that he had lost them, to know that they were there all along. She sighed and rolled onto her back. That wasn’t even the strangest part of the last few days. She had almost died because of Capri’s sister, that she didn’t even know she had. She didn’t doubt that if Crissy said she was, then she was Capri’s twin. Jeri looked at the ceiling. Two of them that powerful. She flipped to her other side and squeezed her eyes shut. She wished Ava was home. The only one she could talk to about all of this who wouldn’t care how long she rambled on wasn’t here. She was sure Capri was having her own unrestful night, so she couldn’t go speak to her either.
- She had hoped that they would find answers when they went to get Fatik, but what they found when they got there wasn’t the same man they were looking for. Had he wanted to come clean? Why else would they do that to him? She didn’t understand how he could go from helping to having no memory of what he’d done at all. Did she even want to see if she could see his soul? She was afraid of what she would see but would still do it anyway—if it meant answers, she would.
- Sitting up, she flung the blankets off her legs and swung them over the side of the bed. She looked around the dark room. If she wandered around the house, she was bound to wake someone. Sighing, she shoved the hair back from her face and then stared at the window. She needed to sleep. Her body needed to sleep. She yawned.
