Chapter 9 Never Forget Her

  • Upstairs, Janice regained consciousness after someone pinched her.
  • As soon as she opened her eyes, she saw Celeste looking at her with concern, holding her hand. Dylan, on the other hand, seemed distracted and not worried at all.
  • Janice instantly felt resentment surge within her.
  • It was all because of Summer for stealing away her father's affection!
  • Frustrated and aggrieved, tears streamed down Janice's cheeks. "Mom..."
  • "Sweetheart, you're awake. Don't cry. Don't cry..." Celeste was deeply distressed.
  • Seeing Janice awake, Dylan immediately announced he was going downstairs.
  • "There are still so many guests downstairs. Now that you're awake, freshen up a bit. I'll go downstairs to attend to the guests."
  • After saying that, Dylan did not wait for them to respond before hastily turning and leaving.
  • As soon as the door closed, Janice could not bear it anymore and grabbed a pillow, hurling it towards the door.
  • "Mom! Look at Dad! I can't take it anymore! I want Summer to disappear immediately!"
  • Celeste's eyes burned with anger too. Originally, this was supposed to be her precious daughter's birthday party, but everyone's attention was clearly focused on Summer.
  • Taking a deep breath, Celeste forced herself to calm down and tried to comfort her daughter. "Sweetheart, don't worry. If something happens to her right after she returns, your father will definitely suspect us. You know him. He's extremely patriarchal and can't stand people who don't listen to him. You must stay steady!"
  • "But what do we do now?" Janice covered her face, sobbing. "My birthday party is ruined! Everyone will mock me when they go back. Those women love gossiping behind people's backs!"
  • Before Celeste could respond, Betty, Janice's nanny, knocked on the door and cheerfully entered the room with an envelope in their paws. "Great news, Madam, Ms. Janice! Great news!"
  • Janice turned her face away in disinterest.
  • "There's no good news now. It's all bad news! Today is the worst day of my life!"
  • The spotlight was completely stolen by Summer, and Janice fainted in public. Who knew what those socialites would say about her?
  • In an attempt to stay calm, Celeste asked Betty, "What's the good news? What's in your hand?"
  • Betty hurriedly approached, excitedly saying, "I just received a delivery for Ms. Janice. It's a package with the Royal Coffee Academy emblem."
  • "Really?" Celeste quickly took the package from Betty's paws.
  • After quickly opening it and glancing at the contents, she happily grabbed Janice's hand. "Jan, this is wonderful news! You won the Noble Coffee Competition last time!"
  • The Noble Coffee Competition was a global event organized by top baristas worldwide. Winning this competition traditionally made the champion the spokesperson for Night Group's Midnight Coffee Lounge.
  • Just participating in this competition was impressive enough, and her beloved daughter had won the championship. It was a tremendous honor!
  • Upon hearing the news, Janice happily took the document and repeatedly examined it.
  • In addition to congratulating her on her win, the document notified her to attend the awards ceremony next week at the Grand International in Southvale.
  • As usual in previous years, Frederick would personally attend the ceremony to present the award and announce the new spokesperson for Midnight Coffee Lounge.
  • Janice was suddenly elated.
  • Celeste warmly smiled. "Mr. Night must have noticed you at the birthday party. When you appear at the ceremony, he will surely look at you in a different manner."
  • As she tightly clutched the piece of paper, Janice eagerly said, "Yes! Mr. Night will definitely remember me. Once I become the spokesperson, those gossiping socialites will shut up!"
  • She could be the center of attention again, and maybe Frederick would never forget her!
  • Despite seeing her daughter so happy, Celeste could not help but feel a faint pang of worry in her heart.
  • Was Summer really from the countryside?
  • The person she sent to pick Summer up had not returned yet, and there had been no news.
  • Moreover, Summer's given address was Doveport. That was not exactly a rural area.
  • When Summer gave her the address, Celeste had not thought much about it, assuming that after ten years, the girl probably moved away from the countryside to work in Doveport.
  • However, she now wondered if she should carefully investigate what Summer had been up to in these ten years and where she had been.
  • Summer's demeanor was not something a girl raised in the countryside could have nurtured on her own.
  • Furthermore, Summer's mother was...
  • Celeste shivered, recalling Summer's every move, and finally convincing herself that Summer was just an ordinary human.
  • Nonetheless, she reminded her daughter, saying, "Jan, I don't think that girl is that simple. Before I come up with a plan, don't act rashly and stir up trouble."
  • "I know, I know."
  • Janice agreed on the surface, but deep down, she did not take the warning seriously.
  • Summer was just a girl from the countryside. Aside from the good looks she inherited from her mother, what was so special about her?
  • Intelligence and talent were largely developed through training and upbringing.
  • Janice excelled in academics and stood out even among the socialites. After all, her parents had splurged on her education. That country bumpkin would likely be considered good enough if she just attended an ordinary high school.
  • As is, Janice could not deal with a simple country girl.
  • An idea slowly emerged in Janice's mind.
  • She should make Summer disappear as soon as possible and not be as slow as her mother.
  • That night.
  • Janice found Betty and ordered her, saying, "Nanny, I need something. Get it for me and put it in the room of that little sl*t."
  • "What's that?"
  • "A venomous snake."
