Chapter 3 Run

  • Was it possible she had not escaped from that nightmare of a laboratory?
  • Were the past few days just a dream?
  • Summer could not help but tremble in fear. In the next moment, anger surged in her heart.
  • Darn it!
  • She punched hard, hitting the wolf's face.
  • Anger sparked in those icy blue eyes, and fangs immediately clamped around her slender neck. With a little more force, they could pierce her delicate skin and take her life.
  • Strangely enough, the wolf did not bite down. It stopped with its fangs resting on her skin.
  • Moments later, the wolf turned and left.
  • Summer sat on the ground, relieved to be alive. Although she did not understand why the wolf did not eat her, she had to find a way to escape this place.
  • However...
  • Summer looked around but did not see the man. Her heart sank. It seemed the wolf had eaten him.
  • At that moment, a loud, distant wolf howl sounded outside.
  • Awoo!
  • Soon after, countless wolf howls responded from afar.
  • Awoo!
  • Awoo!
  • Awoo!
  • These howls sounded like they were responding to an alpha wolf's call.
  • Summer's face turned pale. The wolf was surely calling its pack. She immediately stood up and sneaked out of the cave.
  • She did not notice the majestic wolf watching her out of the corner of its eye.
  • The next day, Summer, resting in another cave, was awakened by the sound of a helicopter's blades.
  • She hurried out and looked up to see a green helicopter slowly descending and landing very close to her cave.
  • Summer rushed over and saw a dozen bodyguards filing out of the helicopter. They all stood respectfully in front of a man. It was the man she had saved.
  • "Darn it!"
  • Summer cursed. The man had not been eaten. He had run away when he saw the wolf coming!
  • That ungrateful man!
  • Upon hearing the noise, the man turned to look at her.
  • For the first time, Summer saw the man's face under the bright daylight. He was very handsome, with deep blue eyes and a powerful aura that lingered around him. Except for his still-pale face, he looked no different from a normal person.
  • This man's fitness level was far above the average.
  • "You..."
  • Summer began, but the man interrupted her, asking, "What do you want?"
  • "Huh?" She did not understand.
  • The man blankly said, "You saved me. I can grant you one wish."
  • "No need. If I had not been lucky yesterday, I would have been eaten by the wolf. You would not have to grant any wish!"
  • Summer was rendered speechless by the man's audacity. She then noticed the bodyguards looked at her in shock, as if she had said something strange.
  • The man’s expression remained unchanged. He said, "If you pass on this chance, you will regret it."
  • Summer was furious. It seemed he did not think he had done anything wrong at all! However, her wooden boat might not bring her back to the mainland either.
  • As she ground her teeth, she said, "My wish is for you to take me home."
  • At that moment, she had only one wish. It was to leave this deserted island.
  • She had too many questions that needed answers, and that required going back to the Steiners, her biological father's family.
  • Three hours later, the helicopter hovered over Nearon.
  • "Is that the place?" The man pointed to a estate below.
  • "Probably." Summer had no memory of her childhood, but she had researched the Steiners before this trip home.
  • The family estate should have originally been under the Moores. Now, it was her biological father's property, the one who had not looked for her in ten years since she went missing.
  • Steiner Estate.
  • The entire estate was decorated for a birthday party.
  • Janice Steiner, wearing an LV limited edition starlight dress from the Spring collection, was surrounded by a group of socialites who kept heaping praises on her.
  • "Happy birthday, Jan! Your dress is so beautiful. It's like a galaxy!"
  • "This is the LV limited edition from the Spring collection, right? I could not even find someone to borrow it from. You actually bought it. Your father is so good to you!"
  • Janice basked in the attention and hid the pride in her eyes as she said, "Thank you."
  • Summer might be their father's biological daughter, but after being kidnapped and living in a village, even if she came back, how could she compare to Janice?
  • "Madam!" At that moment, a servant rushed in and reported, "A helicopter from the Nights has landed on the party lawn."
  • "The Nights?" Janice's eyes lit up.
  • Celeste Steiner was also surprised.
  • The Steiners ran one of the top companies in Nearon as well as being one of the elites in the city.
  • However, the Nights were considered at the top of the international pyramid. The top five investment banks on Wall Street served them. This was a family that helped give birth to dozens of Silicon Valley elites. Frederick Night was the heir to the Night Group, and the Steiners stood no chance of inviting Frederick to their daughter's birthday party.
  • "Check it out!" Celeste was curious but mostly delighted at the news.
  • If their family could connect with the Nights, they would not have to worry about anything for generations.
  • The duo quickly tidied up their appearance and hurried to the lawn.
  • A group of Nearon elites had already gathered on the lawn.
  • As Janice approached, the socialites surrounded her with envy.
  • "Jan, you actually managed to invite someone from the Nights. That is incredible!"
  • "You did not even tell me about this. If I had known, I would have hired a professional makeup artist to help me for the evening."
  • Janice smiled but secretly judged them all with disdain.
  • Someone from the Nights had come for her. Why would these people need better makeup?
  • Frederick had to have noticed her at the Night family banquet last month!
  • She was about to become the esteemed Mrs. Night!
  • At that moment, the helicopter's door slowly opened.
