Chapter 2 Rebirth

  • On a deserted island.
  • The heavy rain felt like hail against her skin as waves crashed and banged against the rocks.
  • Summer struggled to stand as the rain hit her face, mixing with her blood. She seemed to feel nothing.
  • She had been reborn.
  • Back to the day one year ago when she was assassinated.
  • This time, she was prepared and fought back against those people. The cruise ship sank, and she drifted to this deserted island.
  • The individuals who attempted to capture her for experiments met their demise when the cruise ship exploded.
  • This was her seventh day stranded on the island, with no sight of any passing ships.
  • Fortunately, the island was abundant with trees, and she had managed to create a basic wooden boat.
  • While working on the boat, her mind was unsettled, constantly replaying the events of her past life, but the truth stayed obscured.
  • Summer stood up to stretch her muscles and noticed something black near the rocks.
  • She carefully moved closer and was astonished to find the black object was a man.
  • The man’s face was fair and exceptionally handsome, but he had a wound on his waist. His blood mixed with the seawater in a sight that resembled the sunset. Judging by his clothes, he was not one of those who tried to capture her.
  • Summer checked the man’s breathing and confirmed he was still alive. She struggled to drag him back to land and carried him to the cave where she had been sleeping for the past few days.
  • After lighting a fire, she ran out into the rain. When she returned, she had a few herbs in her hand.
  • “You are lucky to run into me,” Summer said as she reached out to remove the man’s clothes.
  • Summer examined the man’s wound on his waist. It was a deep knife wound, and she did not know if it had injured any internal organs.
  • As she was about to check his pulse, her wrist was suddenly gripped by a large hand.
  • “Who... are you?” The man’s voice was weak, but his grip on her wrist was strong.
  • Summer glanced at the man and calmly said, “Who am I? Your savior. If you do not let go, I will have to make you a tombstone. How about 'John Doe' as a name?”
  • The man frowned and said nothing. His eyes fell on the crushed herbs in her hand.
  • “What are you staring at? Take off your clothes. I am helping you.”
  • Summer reached out to help him.
  • “I can do it myself.”
  • The man disdainfully pushed her hand away and removed his clothes, but his blue eyes remained vigilant.
  • As his clothes came off, Summer saw the man’s eight-pack abs and the smooth lines of muscles that extended to his waistband. His physique was incredible.
  • Still, it had nothing to do with her. After the inhumane experiments she had gone through, she no longer had any interest in men’s bodies.
  • As she thought that, Summer expressionlessly applied the herbs to the man’s wound.
  • “What is this?” the man asked in a low voice.
  • “Herbs to stop bleeding and reduce inflammation.”
  • “Where is this place?”
  • Summer shot the man an impatient glance. He was very handsome, but he asked too many questions. If she knew where they were, would she have been stuck here for seven days?
  • “If you have questions, go to school. If you have the energy to talk, you might as well lie down and sleep.”
  • The man irritably said, “That is not how a doctor should talk to a patient.”
  • “Ha!” Summer smiled. “Is that how you talk to your savior then?”
  • The man scowled.
  • “Woman, you are very rude.”
  • “Man, you are very impolite.”
  • They stared at each other, one with a cold glare and the other with a heated glare. It was as if there were sparks in the air.
  • Summer refrained from arguing with the injured man. At last, she stood up and said, “The rain is heavy today, making it very cold tonight. I will go and light a fire. You lie down and keep quiet.”
  • With a furrowed brow, Summer headed to the corner to light a fire. The man’s wound was peculiar, covered with a faint silvery substance that she had to meticulously remove. Some of it had infiltrated his flesh, leading to inflammation.
  • Night quickly fell.
  • They lay on opposite sides of the cave. Summer was awakened by groans in the middle of the night.
  • She opened her eyes and saw the man’s already pale face turn even paler. He curled up, covered in cold sweat.
  • “Hey, are you okay?”
  • Summer walked over and poked the man’s muscular arm, but he did not respond.
  • She quickly put a hand on his forehead. It was burning hot.
  • This was a fever caused by the infection.
  • In normal circumstances, two amoxicillin tablets would solve the problem. However, where on this deserted island could she find amoxicillin?
  • Summer had no choice but to use physical methods to reduce the fever.
  • Later, the man stopped burning up and began to shiver all over. He kept muttering about the cold in a daze.
  • Summer moved him closer to the fire, but it did not help.
  • “Darn it,” Summer softly cursed. She reluctantly took off her clothes and lay down, tightly hugging the man to warm him with her body.
  • It was important to save lives, even if this man were a dog.
  • Of course, if he were a wolf, she would not save him.
  • Eventually, Summer fell asleep. Half-asleep, she felt her breathing become labored as if something heavy was pressing on her. She groggily touched it. It was furry, not like a human, more like an animal.
  • She tiredly opened her eyes and was met with a pair of icy blue eyes that glowed in the dark.
  • What...?
  • Summer’s breath caught. A wolf!
