Chapter 16 Show Off

  • Summer had never really taken werewolves and vampires seriously before. To her, they were just myths. But after being reborn, memories of her previous life brought a sudden surge of unfamiliar power to her mind. She started to consider the possibility that werewolves might actually exist.
  • Her physical strength was noticeably greater than that of an average person, and her wounds healed much faster than normal.
  • During her research, Summer discovered that werewolves lived in packs, and each was led by an Alpha. Above them was a universally recognized Alpha King who ruled over everyone.
  • Of course, she knew this from TV shows. There were also some mysterious websites off-limits due to high security and she couldn't access it. She suspected that if a world of werewolves existed, they would likely have their own communication network. Her mission was to uncover this hidden world.
  • Five days went by with no action from Janice or Celeste.
  • Celeste hadn't mentioned reconsidering Janice's punishment to Dylan either. Instead, she focused on taking good care of Summer, which seemed to lighten his mood.
  • The snake incident was off-limits for discussion, and everyone acted as if nothing had happened.
  • After five nights of sleeping in the study, Dylan finally returned to the bedroom to sleep with Celeste. The next morning, he appeared refreshed as he left the estate. His gaze toward her was gentle, and it was clear to everyone what had happened the previous night.
  • At dinner that evening, she made her move. "Honey, there's something I haven't told you about Janice."
  • At the mention of Janice, Dylan's good mood vanished. He slammed his fork down and shouted, "Are you here to speak for that girl? She made a huge mistake, and I've already been lenient by grounding her for a month! Don't even think about pleading for her!"
  • Summer shot a suspicious glance at Celeste. It seemed out of character for Celeste to speak up now of all times. Celeste was usually very perceptive and would know that it wasn't the right moment to speak for Janice. What was Celeste up to?
  • Celeste looked troubled and said, "I'm not pleading for her. There's something else on my mind, and I'm not sure if I should share it with you."
  • When he heard she wasn't pleading for Janice, Dylan's expression softened slightly. Yet, he still asked coldly, "What is it?"
  • She sighed and pulled out a piece of paper from her pocket. "I received a letter today. It says Janice won the Royal Coffee Academy's Noble Coffee Competition."
  • "What?" Dylan knew that winning this championship would mean landing an endorsement deal with Midnight Coffee Lounge, a globally renowned coffee chain.
  • He was overjoyed and eagerly read the letter in Celeste's hand. When Dylan saw the name of the award presenter, Frederick, his eyes lit up with greed.
  • His paws trembled as he held the letter. "Why didn't you tell me this great news sooner? The ceremony is tomorrow afternoon."
  • She looked guilty and replied, "It's because Janice made a mistake. When I told her today, she said she didn't want to attend the ceremony and wanted to stay home to reflect."
  • "What was she thinking?" Dylan blurted out.
  • It was a rare opportunity to establish herself among the elite. He couldn't understand why Janice would pass it up. That seemed foolish to her.
  • But when he caught Summer's innocent gaze, he felt as though his mercenary thoughts had been laid bare. He coughed awkwardly and said, "If Janice realizes her mistake, the length of her punishment won't make a difference. Jenny, what do you think?"
  • Summer smirked inwardly.
  • So, this was her dear father. What a great father he was, huh?
  • Despite her thoughts, she kept her true feelings hidden. She smiled warmly and said, "Dad, I've been meaning to say, keeping her grounded isn't the solution. It's better to give her some freedom now. She's old enough to know right from wrong after making a mistake once. If she does it again, you can discipline her more seriously then."
  • Across the table, Celeste gritted her teeth in anger. Summer's words suggested that if Janice slipped up again, Dylan wouldn't be quick to forgive her.
  • He frowned and said, "You're right. There won't be a next time. Celeste, tell her that if she does it again, she'll be kicked out."
  • Celeste was furious but had to say, "I'll tell her. She knows she was wrong. Thank you, Summer, for forgiving her."
  • Summer smiled. "We're family. Families should be forgiving, even if she once tried to harm me."
  • Celeste's smile froze. She couldn't keep up the act and stood up. "I'll go pack for the trip to Southvale tomorrow." As she headed upstairs, she remembered her plan and stopped. "Honey, since tomorrow is the weekend, why don't you come with us? Bring Summer along?"
  • He thought of Summer's connection to Frederick and agreed without hesitation. "Sure. Pack Summer's things, too, and buy her some clothes for the trip."
  • "Yes, honey." Celeste finally managed a smile. She knew Janice would steal the show tomorrow.
