Chapter 8 Are You Offering Yourself?

  • Janice's hair immediately became a mess on her head. Once, she was the star of the show and now she looked pale with her hair disheveled. She was thoroughly embarrassed.
  • "Jan!" Celeste immediately rushed onto the stage.
  • Amidst her concern, she did not forget about Summer and deliberately positioned herself to shoulder Summer aside.
  • Summer, in her four-inch heels, happened to be standing on the edge of the constructed stage.
  • Just as she was suddenly bumped by Celeste, she lost her balance and began to topple toward the edge of the stage...
  • However, she quickly ducked and rolled, protecting her head with her hands.
  • Even if she fell, her head wouldn't hit the ground hard.
  • Unexpectedly for Summer, instead of falling as she expected, strong hands securely supported her slender back while another arm circled around her waist, lowering her gently from the stage.
  • Once Summer's feet touched the ground, she instinctively looked up to see the owner of those hands.
  • She saw a cold, handsome face frowning at her. "Why did you wear those heels? Do you want to fall to your death?"
  • It was not like she chose to wear them herself!
  • Summer wanted to retort but held her tongue, knowing he meant well.
  • Without him, she might have actually fallen.
  • However...
  • "Can you teleport? Just now, you were quite far from me." If she remembered correctly, Frederick had been several dozen steps away, yet he caught her in the blink of an eye.
  • Upon meeting Summer's probing gaze, Frederick snorted. "I was afraid you'd fall for me. You might not realize the power of adrenaline."
  • Summer scoffed. "I don't believe someone who'd leave me behind at the sight of a wolf cares about me."
  • "That wolf wouldn't have eaten you!"
  • "Ha! You're not the wolf, so how do you know it wouldn't eat me?"
  • Summer's retort caused Frederick's expression to darken further. He grunted, "I just know."
  • Still defiant, Summer decided not to speak to him further, forgetting momentarily about the recent incident.
  • For a while, silence enveloped them.
  • At that moment, Dylan approached.
  • "Sweetie, are you okay? I was about to come help you, but Mr. Night beat me to it... Mr. Night seems to care a lot about you!"
  • Dylan's tone implicitly accused them while his face was full of concern.
  • Meanwhile, Janice was being carried upstairs by the crowd and did not even catch Dylan's glance.
  • Summer found it amusing. Her dad... She almost believed he was genuinely a loving father to his daughter.
  • Summer could not understand why her perfect mother chose someone like Dylan. Moreover, why did the people in that lab say her genes were superior?
  • This time, she had to find out the truth. That was because something seemed fishy.
  • There were definitely secrets she wasn't aware of.
  • "I'm fine, Dad. Why don't you go upstairs and check on sister? She suddenly fainted. I hope it's not something serious."
  • Summer's expression was gentle and serene, showing no trace of disdain towards Dylan—just a sensible and obedient daughter.
  • Dylan was extremely satisfied with Summer.
  • He must have accumulated great karma in his past life to have such a perfect daughter!
  • Dylan quickly said, "You're right. I'll go check on your sister first and not disturb you and Mr. Night. Mr. Night, make yourself at home!"
  • Frederick frowned.
  • Make himself at home?
  • Were the Steiners worthy of that?
  • He glanced at Summer but ultimately refrained from making any sarcastic remarks to Dylan.
  • Once Dylan left, Frederick spoke up, saying, "What do you want me to investigate?"
  • At this question, Summer's expression turned cold, a hint of hatred in her eyes. "Help me find an island, it should be near the island where I saved you."
  • "How far?"
  • "Don't know."
  • "Any distinguishing features?"
  • "Don't know." Summer noticed Frederick's expression of disbelief and sighed. "I'm not messing with you. I really don't know. All I know is that you often hear wolves howling there."
  • After hesitating for a moment, Summer decided not to mention the werewolf experiments to Frederick. Such surreal things would sound absurd to an ordinary human.
  • Yet, there was a serious glint in Frederick's eyes. "Wolves howling?"
  • "Yeah." Summer nodded as she warned him, saying, "Be careful when you investigate the place. It's dangerous there."
  • Frederick squinted at her for a while before nodding. "Alright, I'll inform you if I find anything."
  • Suddenly, he had a new suspicion. Perhaps this human girl was just a guide, and his future Luna was on that mysterious island.
  • After Frederick left, Summer carefully inspected what used to be the Moore's estate.
  • What had happened to the Moore Family? They were such a prominent pack, yet they completely disappeared and were replaced by the Steiners.
