Chapter 14 Teaching You How To Behave

  • Janice mused, That b*tch is so malicious. Dad will surely throw her out. Then, I'll reclaim my title as the family's eldest daughter. I don't want to be the family's second daughter anymore.
  • "Could you drive a bit faster? I really need to get home now," she urged the driver impatiently.
  • The car sped down the road and quickly reached the Steiner Estate.
  • As soon as Janice stepped out of the car, she noticed the estate was brightly lit, as though nobody had turned in for the night. She figured everyone must have been worried about her, so they stayed up late. At that moment, she truly felt like the family's cherished princess.
  • She strode confidently through the estate's gate and was pleased with herself. She could already envision Celeste and Dylan fussing over her the moment she entered. Then, she would point out that the snake was likely placed by Summer to harm her. This would lead to Summer's eviction. But then Janice remembered Summer hadn't brought anything with her, so she could just leave.
  • The more Janice dwelled on her plan, the more exhilarated she felt. She quickened her pace and almost forgot the pain from her wounds and the discomfort from the snake bite.
  • "Mom!" Janice finally arrived in the hall.
  • The hall was brightly lit, with all the maids standing silently. The atmosphere was tense, as though something had gone wrong.
  • Ignoring the tension, Janice marched up to Dylan. "Dad, I have something to tell you." As she spoke, she glanced at Summer with eyes full of arrogance and pride.
  • Summer understood the look in Janice's eyes. She tilted her head, and her eyes sparkled with interest.
  • Celeste had a bad premonition in her heart. She instinctively grabbed Janice's arm. "Whatever it is, let's talk about it tomorrow. After everything that happened today, you need to rest and recover first."
  • "No, Mom. It has to be now!" If Janice missed this chance, she wasn't sure there would be another opportunity to get rid of Summer. She couldn't afford to wait any longer.
  • Janice thought Celeste was being too indecisive. In times like this, one must act swiftly and decisively. So, she pushed her mother aside and approached her father.
  • Dylan's face was stern as he coldly asked, "What do you want to say?" He might consider forgiving Janice this time if she admitted her mistake.
  • However, Janice said, "Dad, the poisonous snake that bit me was placed in my room by Summer. She hates me and wants me dead. You can't keep such a vicious woman around, Dad."
  • Dylan was shocked. He couldn't believe that despite everything Janice had done, she showed no remorse and was even trying to blame Summer. He wondered how he had raised such a foolish and deceitful daughter.
  • Seeing her father's silence, she thought he was reluctant to kick Summer out. She hurriedly continued, "You can't afford to be lenient. If she failed to kill me this time, she'll surely try it again. If she can harm me, she can harm you too."
  • Dylan's eyelids twitched twice. He couldn't restrain himself and raised his hand to deliver a powerful slap across Janice's face.
  • The sharp sound of the slap echoed through the hall.
  • This slap was far heavier than the one Celeste had given Summer earlier. Janice gasped in pain and spat out a mouthful of blood accompanied by a dislodged tooth.
  • Janice was stunned. She couldn't believe what was happening. Her father was supposed to slap Summer, not her. She couldn't fathom why he would hit her instead. She instinctively raised her hand to cover her stinging cheek.
  • Just as she was about to ask Dylan why he had hit her, Celeste rushed over and grabbed her. "Don't say anything. Just go upstairs!"
  • "No! Why should I go upstairs?" Janice was indignant and furious.
  • She shook off Celeste's hand with all her might and turned to Dylan. "Dad, why did you hit me? It was Summer who did something wrong. Why are you so biased and slap me when I'm the victim?"
  • "Victim? You still think you're the victim?" He was so angry he could barely speak. His breath came in heavy gasps.
  • "Aren't I? I ended up in the hospital. The doctor said if I had arrived a few minutes later, I wouldn't have made it..." Janice's voice trembled with fear as she spoke.
  • Summer smirked. Her smile quickly faded as she stepped forward and said, "Janice, why are you still lying? Do you want Dad to be devastated?"
  • Janice scowled with disgust. "Since when do you get to speak in this house?"
  • Summer raised an eyebrow and said, "Seems like you still don't know everyone already knows about your evil deeds."
  • Janice clenched her fists nervously. "What... what do you mean?"
  • Summer smiled faintly. "Looks like you didn't know your nanny spilled everything. You told her to get a poisonous snake to kill me, but it slithered into your room through the balcony. Janice, to put it bluntly, you brought this on yourself."
