Chapter 5 Waiting for Embarrassment

  • Frederick said in a deep voice, "Are you sure this is your wish? You can still change it now."
  • Summer frowned. "Have you had a change of heart and feel guilty about me?"
  • He did not reply. He just thought that such a small request did not match the value of her saving him. More importantly, the wolf inside him was urging him to be closer to Summer and seemed excited.
  • Summer sneered. "If you really want to repay me, help me investigate something."
  • From their behavior, she could tell this man must have had a noble status. Maybe he could help her find out where that disgusting laboratory was located.
  • When she was taken there, she was unconscious, so she had no idea of how to get there or the location.
  • The only things she remembered were the cold, green eyes of those people and the occasional sound of wolves howling.
  • Maybe it was a wolf island.
  • At that moment, everyone around, including Celeste and Janice, stared at Summer and Frederick in disbelief.
  • What was going on?
  • This beggar knew Frederick!
  • Frederick’s dark eyes were fixed on Summer. Just as he was about to speak, Dylan Steiner's excited voice rang out across the lawn.
  • "Mr. Night, why did you not call ahead if you were coming to see me? I am so sorry for the lack of welcome!"
  • As soon as Dylan spoke, he noticed everyone looking at him like he was an idiot.
  • Celeste just closed her eyes.
  • What was going on?
  • Dylan finally sensed something was wrong and suspiciously looked around.
  • When his gaze landed on Summer, he immediately furrowed his brows.
  • "Janice, why did you invite a beggar to the birthday party? Get her out! Do not dirty Mr. Night’s sight!"
  • Janice’s face froze. She felt both embarrassed and a bit happy. Her expression was complicated as she said, "Dad, she is—"
  • "Dad!" Summer interrupted Janice and took control of the situation. "Do you not recognize me? I am Jenny."
  • Her nickname as a child was Jenny.
  • "Jenny..." Dylan raised an eyebrow. Two seconds later, he asked in shock, "You are... Summer?"
  • "It is me, Dad." Summer stepped forward.
  • After ten years, she did not remember her childhood, but his face seemed familiar.
  • When Dylan heard Summer’s words, he instinctively took a step back.
  • It was a kind of fear, the fear of a secret being discovered.
  • Summer keenly noticed this but kept her composure and continued, "Dad, I have missed you so much over the years."
  • Dylan’s expression was stiff. He forced himself to pat Summer’s shoulder. "It is good you're back…"
  • Upon seeing how awkward he was acting, Celeste quickly spoke up, saying, "Dylan, it seems Mr. Night brought Summer back."
  • "Is that so?" When Dylan heard that, his expression showed less disgust toward Summer.
  • After all, when that incident happened, Summer was still young and reportedly had amnesia. She could not possibly remember it. Besides, he had already cut ties with the underground werewolves of that region. It was impossible for what was done to be discovered.
  • However, if he could use Summer to get an in with the Nights, it would definitely be a profitable deal!
  • Dylan immediately smiled and looked at Frederick, asking, "Mr. Night, you know my precious daughter! Thank you for bringing her back. If you do not mind, please come inside to freshen up and have a meal before leaving."
  • Celeste chimed in, saying, "Yes, Mr. Night. We have some new clothes for guests. Would you like to change your clothes?"
  • Frederick nodded. He had a bit of a cleanliness obsession. Wearing clothes soaked in seawater until now was already his limit.
  • At that, Dylan immediately made a "please" gesture and quietly instructed Celeste, saying, "Make sure Summer gets a good wash and dress up."
  • Having been married to Dylan for nearly ten years, Celeste immediately understood the deeper meaning behind "good wash and dress up."
  • He wanted to use Summer to social climb and hook up with the Nights.
  • Such a grand opportunity should belong to her daughter, not Summer!
  • When Calista Moore was alive, she overshadowed Celeste. After her death, Celeste would not allow Calista’s daughter to overshadow her own daughter!
  • Celeste agreed on the surface, but secretly, she pulled Janice aside and said, "Lead Summer inside to freshen up and dress up. From now on, she is your sister, and you should get along."
  • Despite her words, her eyes held a meaningful look as she handed Summer over to Janice.
  • Janice immediately understood what Celeste wanted.
  • ...
  • Inside.
  • Summer enjoyed a comfortable hot bath.
  • After spending a week on the deserted island, she felt like her skin was falling apart.
  • As the hot water washed over her face, the soot and mud slowly washed away, revealing her fair and delicate skin.
  • A flawless, palm-sized face emerged from the mist, looking just like an angel.
  • Ten minutes later, Janice knocked on the bathroom door.
  • "Summer, I brought you a dress. Crack open the door, and I will pass it to you. The shoes are by the door. Put them on when you come out."
  • "Okay." Summer opened the door just enough for her to take the dress.
  • She did not see the mischievous look in Janice’s eyes.
  • This dress was a high-end Gucci gown. It was more expensive than the one Janice was wearing. Janice had gone through a lot of effort to get it.
  • However, after buying it, she realized she could not wear it.
  • That was because although the dress was perfect, it was only great on a specific body type.
  • Its cut meant it could only be worn by someone with a supermodel figure with no excess fat and with a certain bust size. An average person would either look fat or too thin and unable to fill in the dress.
  • Janice could not wear it due to her lack of prominent collarbones as well as her rather broad shoulders. That was why she was not wearing it today.
  • Once Summer, the ugly girl, put it on, everyone would laugh at her!
