Chapter 4 Going Home

  • Amidst the anticipation, a ragged girl jumped down from the helicopter.
  • The girl's figure was slender, but her face was covered in soot, making it impossible to see her features. Her hair looked like it had not been washed for a month as it messily stuck to her scalp.
  • "What…"
  • Everyone looked at Janice. Some who did not like Janice sneered and said, "Jan, is this the esteemed guest you invited? A... beggar?"
  • Janice was furious and strode over to question the girl. "Who are you? How dare you come to my birthday party!"
  • "Birthday party?" Summer immediately recognized the arrogant girl.
  • The information she had gathered showed this was the adopted daughter her father took in after she went missing.
  • His actual blood-related daughter's fate was uncertain, yet he threw a birthday party for his adopted daughter.
  • Ha!
  • "Who am I?" Summer stared at the girl and said, "I am your father…"
  • "You…"
  • Janice was about to lose her temper when Summer calmly added, "The biological daughter of your father."
  • Janice’s expression froze. The guests at the birthday party were now looking on with interest, ready for the show to start.
  • Janice snapped back to her senses and asked in shock, "You... Are you Summer?"
  • That country bumpkin?
  • Indeed, this girl looked very much like a country bumpkin!
  • Celeste was more rational and quickly stepped forward, saying, "Summer, is it you? I have waited for you for so long. My poor child, you have finally come back..."
  • Summer mockingly smiled. "Aunt Celeste, how have you been?"
  • Although she was smiling, her tone was full of sarcasm.
  • Celeste was the adopted daughter of the Moores, so she was considered Summer's mother's sister. However, after Summer's mother died, Celeste married Summer's father.
  • A brother-in-law marrying his sister-in-law? How absurd!
  • They must have something to hide!
  • The guests whispered among themselves. "I heard Mrs. Steiner is the sister of the previous Mrs. Steiner..."
  • "This must be the Ms. Moore who was kidnapped ten years ago."
  • "The Steiners used to be named the Moores. Mr. Steiner was just a live-in son-in-law of the Moores. When Ms. Moore died, the Moores changed their name to Steiner."
  • "Something like that actually happened? Unbelievable..."
  • Celeste heard the whispers and felt embarrassed. She cleared her throat and said, "Sweetheart, it is good you are back. Let me take you in to freshen up. Look at you. You're so dirty. Life in the countryside must have been tough."
  • Even now, she did not forget to remind everyone that Summer came from the countryside. Clearly, she was not happy with Summer.
  • Summer was about to speak when a deep voice sounded out from behind her. "Hey."
  • Everyone turned to look and was stunned to see who had stepped off the helicopter.
  • Frederick!
  • Frederick, whose every move could shake the global economy.
  • "Mr. Night?" Janice hurried forward in surprise, asking, "Are you here for my birthday party? Thank you…"
  • Janice could not hide the joy in her eyes and the shyness on her face.
  • She had only thought Frederick might send someone to congratulate her. She had not expected Frederick himself to come.
  • Spring was here! The best time of her life was about to begin!
  • If she could, Janice would have jumped for joy.
  • People around her looked at her with envy.
  • Even though she was adopted, if she could hook up with Frederick, her life would be filled with grandeur.
  • However, at the next moment…
  • "Who are you?"
  • Frederick frowned, seeming to only just notice Janice. The impatience and confusion in his eyes were obvious.
  • Frederick did not know her at all.
  • "Pfft!" Someone nearby could not help but laugh.
  • "What? I thought Mr. Night was here to wish Janice a happy birthday. He does not even know who she is."
  • "Hahaha! I am dying of laughter! If I were her, I would find a hole to hide in and glue it shut with superglue. I would never come out!"
  • Janice's expression turned from joy to shock, then from shock to shame. Finally, she angrily glared at the two socialites who spoke.
  • Celeste quickly reacted and spoke up for her daughter. "Mr. Night, it is an honor to have you here. Today is my daughter’s birthday. She mistakenly thought you were here to wish her a happy birthday. I assume you are here to discuss a deal with Dylan. He is upstairs. Please come in for some tea."
  • The guests immediately stopped mocking Janice and turned serious.
  • It would be a great honor for Frederick to personally arrive at a potential business partner's home to discuss a deal.
  • However, at the next moment, Frederick said, "Do I know you?"
  • Celeste's hand froze mid-invitation.
  • Mr. Night... did not know her either…
  • "Pfft..." The guests struggled to hold back their laughter.
  • Were Celeste and Janice comedians?
  • Celeste felt so embarrassed that she wished the ground would swallow her up.
  • Frederick did not know her either. In that case, who was he here for?
  • Suddenly, it occurred to her.
  • Everyone, including herself, looked down on and ignored Summer, who had also come down from Frederick's helicopter.
  • Since Summer's appearance had been so sudden, and she had seemed so shabby, Celeste had not thought to associate Summer with Frederick.
  • Did Summer know Frederick?
  • As soon as that thought arose, Celeste saw Frederick walk past her and stand in front of Summer.
