Chapter 8 I'm A What?
- The tears continued to fall and the drive seemed a lot longer than it actually was. When they got back to the office, Leah gently wiped her tear-stained cheeks and got out of the car. She made her way to the elevator next to Derreck, and she grew silent. Once they got to the 22nd floor, they walked to Derreck’s office and Leah sat in the main office, while Derreck made his way to his private office. It was now 2 in the afternoon. Leah found herself drifting off to sleep on the couch. Derreck stepped out of his office and was heading to his lounge, when he noticed her small figure sleeping soundly on the couch. Her chest rose and fell as her breathing remained even; he messaged Peter and asked him to bring a blanket to his office. He also asked Peter to keep quiet upon entering. When Peter got into the CEO’s office, he brought the blanket to Derreck. Derreck thanked him with a simple nod and draped the blanket over her small figure. Derreck asked Peter to inform all staff that they were not to disturb him in his office today. While she slept, he was able to process his thoughts.
- What is wrong with me? I don’t know her well, yet here I am, helping her and going out to lunch with her. Am I just protective of her or is there something else at play here? It has to be the latter. I have to talk to dad when I get home, he must have some insight as to what’s going on.
- Snapping out of his reverie, he walked into his office and closed the door. His green eyes flickered grey, then back to green. Finishing his work, it was now 630 in the evening. Time passed swiftly and Derreck grabbed his coat and walked into the main office. He noticed Leah staring blankly into space. He slowly walked up to her and gently touched her hand.
