• He looked down at his feet nervously, fidgeting with his hands once again. “You—” He started and took a deep breath before speaking again. “You won’t beat me, will you?” Denice stifled a sob that escaped her lips.
• Jake responded once again. “Never, Avery. Listen to me.” He sat in a chair and pulled it close to Avery while Avery sat across from him. “We would never do that. The way that they treat you is far less than you deserve and it is the lowest of the low. We just ask that you don’t betray us or our trust. The Alpha and the Gammas are coming by soon with your food; we would love to keep you here at the Golden Crescent Pack, if you would allow us to have you. I would even train you myself.” He finished proudly.
• Avery chuckled. His eyes gleamed with no sadness and his smile was bright. “It would be nice to feel like I belonged in a pack.”
