Chapter 2 Should I Just Get Him Married
- ~Alexander POV~
- "Good morning, sir"
- "Good morning, sir"
- "Morning sir" My employees started greeting immediately I marched into the building, I ignored them as I headed for the elevator to my office.
- I got off the elevator, but the first person I saw made enraged built up in me instantly.
- It's the loosened mouth secretary.
- She was busy with the computer on her desk, but she quickly got on her feet immediately she noticed my presence.
- "Good morning, sir" Her voice wavered, with her head bow.
- "And what's good about the morning?" I asked her coldly, tucking my hands into my trouser pocket.
- "Sir?" She glanced at my face and quickly lowered her head again.
- "How dare you?!" I roared as my teeth clenched.
- She cowered, shivering with fear.
- "How dare you told my granny I left the office already?"
- "Are you dumb?"
- "Couldn't you come up with something and tell her rather than telling her the truth?" I shot at her angrily.
- "I'm really sorry sir, but granny was very worried about you" She choked on her words.
- "But granny was very worried about you" I mimicked her voice.
- "You're fired!" I yelled.
- She lifted her head abruptly, her eyes has gone widened.
- "And if my granny found out about it, then you're so dead" I threatened.
- "Sir, please forgive me" She went on her kneels immediately, weeping profusely.
- "I'm so sorry about it, but I promise it won't repeat itself"
- "Give me a chance, please" She begged earnestly, rubbing her palms together.
- "I don't take back my words you witch, get your things and leave right away!" I shouted at her and turned around to walk into my office, but surprisingly, Mack was at the doorway with his cellphone in his hand.
- "What are you doing?" I inquired in my usual cold voice.
- "Well, Mr Alexander, isn't it bad you don't take back your words?" He says calmly, not sparing me a glance as he pressed his phone.
- "But don't you think sending this clip to your granny will really cause a disaster?" He showed his phone to my face, and my heart began to race as I watched the whole scene on his phone.
- I charged towards him and made to snatch the phone from him, but he was really quick to brought his hand to his back.
- "Don't mess with me Mack, delete that video now!" I ordered.
- He closed his eyes and clicked his tongue for a moment.
- "It's tit for tat, Mr Alexander" He said with a sneer smile and made to turn away.
- "I took my words back" I rumbled out. He stopped walking and turned around, with a big smile filled face.
- "Thank you very much, sir" The secretary said elatedly, behind us.
- I felt a hard knot twisted in my chest- I gulped.
- F**k Mack!
- If not for granny...
- "So will you delete the video now?" I asked him, harshly.
- "Sure boss" He grinned as he pressed his phone for a sec.
- "Done" He raised the phone to my face and winked, still grinning like someone who had just won a prize.
- "Now excuse me, I have a lot to attend to" I twisted the doorknob and walked into my office.
- "I'll come check on you later, boss" Mack said sarcastically. I shut the door to his face and breathe out heavily.
- Darn it!
- He better not show up in my office again, otherwise I'll kill him... My jaw tightened at the thought of him coming to my office later.
- The_next_morning
- I dallied into the living room, itching my nape while yawning loudly.
- How long did I sleep? I thought as I stretched and yawned lazily.
- "How was your night dear?" Mom's voice startled me.
- I saw her sitting on one of the single couches watching the TV, I breathe out softly before I went to her.
- "Good morning, sweet sixteen" I pecked her forehead.
- "Am I really still looking sweet sixteen?" She blushed and I chuckled as I sat on the armrest, bringing my arm to her shoulder.
- "Of course mom, you're always looking so young and beautiful"
- "Oh my..."She covered her cheeks with her palms.
- "Enough of the early flatter Kiara, my cheeks might go numb soon" She giggled and I just smiled at her.
- "So how was your night, mom?" I asked, stroking her soft black hair.
- She turned to look at me.
- "I'm sorry I couldn't stay awake till your arrival last night" She said, sadly.
- "It's okay mom, nature can't be cheated"
- She smiled softly and pressed her palm to my cheek for a moment.
- "I should go prepare breakfast" I said while standing on my feet.
- "Let's prepare it together" Mom said as she also stood up.
- "Mom you..."
- "No objection" She cut me off with a frown.
- "I can't definitely win against you, can I?" I chuckled softly as I led the way to the kitchen.
- "I doubt that" She laughed quietly behind me.
- ****
- "Uhmm.. Kiara" Mom called after a brief silence.
- "Yes, Mom" I glanced at her as I chopped the carrots.
- She covered the pot on the cooker before moving close to where I was standing.
- "How about what I discussed with you?" She asked calmly.
- "What's that, mom?" I lifted my head to look at her face.
- "About your job" She replied and I mouthed an "oh" before dropping the knife on the chopping board.
- I heaved a little sigh before taking her hands.
- "I thought we already talked about this mom, how do we survive if I quit this job?" I questioned, staring into her eyes.
- "There are many jobs out there Kiara, I really want you to quit this job, you're becoming a woman each passing day" She paused and breathe out, ruefully.
- "It breaks my heart to see my own daughter..." Her voice quavers.
- "It's okay mom, I'll think about it" I butt in. I wouldn't like her to start crying.
- "But first, I'll be traveling to Texas in two days time" I dropped the news and her eyes dilated in shock immediately.
- "What?"
- "Why do you want to travel to Texas all of a sudden?" She asked, breathlessly.
- "Breath, mom"
- "There's nothing really, I just want to.. more like I want to change my environment for a while" I told her, convincedly.
- "And come to think of it mom, I've never been to Texas before" I joked and smiled but her face held a non smiling one.
- "Uhmm... So you'll be leaving me all by myself in the next two days?" She said with a wry smile.
- "C'mon mom, don't give me that face"
- "I won't be gone forever, it's just for some couple of days" I cupped her cheeks and assured her.
- "Are you sure?"
- I smiled and pulled her for a hug.
- I can't explain why I am having this great urge to visit Texas.
- -Granny POV-
- Tears stung my eyes as I trailed my fingers all over late Andrew- my son and his wife in the picture. It's so sad I lost both of them in the hands of cold death several years ago.
- And ever since, Alexander- their only child, has been the only person I've left in this cruel world. He is absolutely my everything and I love him so much, except that he's very stubborn and naughty.
- Hmmm
- I stared on, thinking of a way to make him quit his wayward attitude.
- Should I just get him married? I thought as I adjusted my eyeglasses.
- Yes!
- Of course it's really going to work.
- Once he's married, he'll be committed and become a responsible man I've always wanted.
- Whoa..
- Why didn't I think of this idea sooner?
- I left the picture on the bed and stood up, smiling at the great idea that just struck me.
