Chapter 6 Looming Threat
- As the first-generation member of the Dragon Special Forces, he had arguably taken part in forging Cheilia's most mysterious troop. Thus, his sentiment toward this troop was no less than Isaac's.
- Back when Vincent had just come of age, Winston decided to send his son into the military. However, Vincent's passion was in research, and he was even gifted at it. Seeing that he had no interest in combat, Winston could only drop it.
- Later, when Isaac was born, Winston had high hopes for him and began developing his interest in combat since he was just a child. Isaac, on the other hand, displayed a horrifying degree of talent in combat and extraordinary perseverance beyond Winston's imagination.
- In the end, Isaac entered the military just as Winston had hoped and became a member of Cheilia's strongest, most secretive Dragon Special Forces.
- That said, Olivia thought otherwise. She knew the missions assigned to the special forces were demanding and perilous. Anybody could leave standing and return lying at any time.
- She hoped Isaac could live like an average Joe—go to school, work, get married, and have kids. Even if he were to join the military, she would hope that he followed her and Vincent's footsteps in working in the rear instead of the frontline.
- Naturally, no mother in this world would hope to see their child threading between life and death.
- Winston was clear that Olivia held a grudge against him for sending Isaac into the special forces, and every time Isaac went on a mission, she would spend her days in worry.
- Winston could relate to Olivia's mindset, and it was already estimable that Olivia never said anything about it over the years. Now, Isaac had finally been decommissioned, and if he forcefully sent the young man back…
- Then again, can Isaac really live peacefully in the city for the rest of his life if I don't send him back to the military?
- Knowing his grandson, the young man would never drop whatever he had set his mind to. It was only a matter of time.
- The city could never lock a giant up!
- Meanwhile, Isaac slumped, seeming to have gotten something from his grandfather's silence.
- "Here comes the stew! Eat it while it's hot. Dad, come and have some more too. This stew is good for you." Olivia beamed as she brought the soup out, looking seemingly a few years younger.
- After putting the stew down, she looked at Isaac and said, "Eat up. After all, you won't be staying for long."
- "What do you mean?" Isaac was rendered stumped.
- "Your dad and I already talked to Mark and Jennifer before you came back. You're no young man anymore, and you don't have a job following your decommission either. As such, we've all agreed that you should work as a school doctor at Dunrey University for now. Sandra's teaching at the university as well. Plus, you guys can use this chance to develop your romance," related Olivia as she ladled some stew into a bowl and handed it to Isaac, whose hands quivered in surprise, nearly spilling the soup. "What?!"
- "You're surprised, aren't you? You'd better take this seriously this time. You two have had an engagement between you two since you were kids, so you better not bully her again. I'm warning you—if you don't bring my daughter-in-law back on your trip to Dunrey this time, don't blame me for not calling you my son ever again!"
- Olivia glared gravely at Isaac, then pondered for a moment before counting with her fingers. "I've already worked it all out. It's September now. I'll give you guys a few weeks to develop your relationship; by Independence Day, you guys can pretty much get married. Then, by next autumn, I'll have a grandchild in my arms… Hey, what are you doing, dreaming?! Did you even hear a word I said?! Are you asking for a beating again?!"
- …
- Inside a lavish mansion in what was known as the well-heeled neighborhood of Dunrey, The Gardens, an unwavering voice sounded, "Dad, I will not marry that jerk!"
- The owner of the voice was a peerless beauty with stunning facial features, fair skin, a shapely figure, and a pair of long legs that would even give the best supermodels a run for their money.
- She stood impassively on the spot like an iceberg, intimidating anyone who dared get close to her.
- Peerlessly stunning face, a hot body, and an aloof attitude…
- If all of that were combined and put on one woman, she would have any man fatally attracted to her.
- She would be a woman who could make any man's blood boil at any place and at any decade.
- And this woman was none other than Sandra Sullivan.
- She was the same Sandra Sullivan whom all the men of Dunrey and even the entire Southern Hemisphere dreamed of dating. Apart from being the belle lecturer of Dunrey Business School, she was also the youngest chairperson of Griffinaid Group.
- And the jerk she was talking about was none other than Isaac Price.
- One year, a young Sandra followed her parents to the Prices' for the holidays, and lo and behold, young Isaac stole her first kiss forcefully, leaving her with an awful impression of him.
- Not only that, an engagement between two children like theirs was practically blasphemy to modern love and marriage in her eyes when they were living in an era of free love.
- She honestly couldn't understand why her father would hold onto an engagement from a couple of decades ago.
- "Nonsense! Vincent and I agreed to this engagement back then. How can I say no just like that?! Every dog has its day. I've already asked around, and Isaac is now an excellent veteran. I'm sure you'll fall in love with him after spending some time with him." Intimidation exuded from Mark, Sandra's father, as he bellowed with an indisputable tone while slamming the cup in his hands onto the table.
- "But—"
- "That's enough. Your mother and I have already agreed. Isaac is already decommissioned and will stay at home for a couple of days before going to your university to work as a doctor. Thereafter, you two will go to work together and also bond in the meantime. That reminds me—for convenience's sake, your mother has arranged for Isaac to stay here."
- "What? He's going to be a doctor at our school and even live with us?!" Sandra was rendered gobsmacked.
- "Not only that, since we don't want to bother you two from bonding, your mother and I will move to another residency," Mark announced soberly.
- Livid, Sandra wanted to retort but then stopped at the last second.
- She knew her father perfectly well and that nothing could change his mind once he was dead set on it.
- Because of this, she no longer opposed the idea, but it didn't mean that she wouldn't have the ignoramus playboy bail out himself.
- …
- Meanwhile, inside another lavish mansion on the most eastern part of the thousand-acre neighborhood of The Gardens, a young man, who looked a lot like Tom but was much calmer and more scheming than him, stood in front of the lavish floor-to-ceiling windows. "Kingsburg is unlike Dunrey. If it weren't for the fact that Uncle Nigel has connections in Kingsburg, you would've been convicted for your crime, you understand?"
- With that, he continued, "It's usually one way or the other if you want to get the girl. One, get her to sleep with you using money and power; two, win her over with your excellence and charm. H*es and actors are the most insincere. It's very simple if you want to dominate a woman like Fleur Mursell. All you have to do is throw money and power at her, and she'll climb to your bed. So why do you want to go down a sketchy road when you have such a clear path?!"
- "You don't know her, Wesley. She isn't that kind of woman at all. Many rich guys want to keep her at Kingsburg Film Academy. In fact, even big shots in showbiz wanted to use the casting couch on her, but she didn't yield at all, or given what she has, she'd long become a national superstar."
- Tom had a few bandages on him, and because his actions were drastic as he spoke, he tugged on his injuries in the process, and the corner of his lips twitched painfully.
- At the same time, the scene from the night before flashed across his mind, and a hint of malice laced his eyes at that. How dare that b*stard belabor me?!
- With that, he continued, "Actually, Wesley, my plan works the best. I mean, we're talking about women. The most effective way is to force yourself on her, then only date her. Hmph, last night was just a mishap. I swear I will butcher that son of a b*tch if I ever see him again and make him regret ever living! By the way, Wesley, the way I see it, this is a good plan to use on Sandra. This is the fastest way to dominate her. If you end up marrying that woman, then the Sullivans' massive business…"
- In front of the massive floor-to-ceiling window, Wesley, who had a hint of suaveness on him, shook his head while a hint of animosity flashed across his eyes. "A good bottle of wine should be savored, and a fine woman should be slowly dominated. Also, things aren't as simple as you think. Unless I have to, I can't force myself on Sandra for now, but she will be mine eventually!"
