Chapter 2 Aid in the Face of Injustice

  • The sky was as dark as ink, and lights dotted the view as cars weaved about on the streets of Kingsburg. It was like a long metal river with no end in sight.
  • In the darkness of the night, a cab drove swiftly in the direction of Westhill.
  • Westhill was one of the mountain ranges in the Whitland Mountains. It was known as the 'Prime of the Whitland Mountains', whereas some might call it Breezy Hill. It was a winding mountain range that protected Kingsburg from a distance in the west, and it was given the honorable title 'The King's Right Hand'.
  • After the establishment of Cheilia, Westhill served as a military base for a long time, and until today, it housed several military organizations.
  • Isaac's home was in Westhill as well.
  • In the car, Isaac gazed at the well-lit skyscrapers outside the window, replaying in his mind the memories of his days in the troop. There was an obvious look of disappointment on his face.
  • He had been in the military for six years, and he had developed a sense of belonging in the military camps. The Dragon Special Forces was like another home to him.
  • But now, he was forced to leave his home. He felt like an abandoned child, so how could he not be disappointed?
  • As for David's suggestion…
  • Isaac didn't even pay it any mind.
  • Putting aside the fact that Isaac had a fiancée, the Belle of Kingsburg certainly wouldn't be easy to pursue.
  • And on the off chance that Isaac won the heart of David's sister, would the old master of the Martin Family guarantee him a spot in the troop?
  • "Careful!"
  • Suddenly, from the corner of his eye, Isaac saw a black sports car rounding the corner in front of them. He instantly recovered his senses and reminded the cab driver in a loud voice.
  • Screech—
  • Thanks to Isaac's reminder, the cab driver subconsciously hit the steering wheel and quickly stepped on the brakes. The tires let out an ear-piercing screech as they rubbed fiercely against the road.
  • Bang—
  • Even though the driver's reaction was quick and he had made the most appropriate decision, due to the sudden appearance of the black sports car, the two cars still collided before coming to a halt.
  • The right side of the cab had collided with the left front side of the black sports car. The left fender of the black sports car was dented, and the headlights shattered with the pieces falling all over the ground.
  • "Oh no, I'm finished!"
  • The sudden scene caused the cab driver to freeze up. A chill ran from the top of his head to his toes as terror filled his face.
  • Due to his child's medical bills, he had used up all the savings at home three years ago, and he had borrowed a load of money from outside.
  • To pay back the money to his friends and relatives, he worked during the day and drove cabs at night, and he could only get four hours of sleep every day.
  • Three years passed by quickly.
  • In that amount of time, all his hair had gone white, and he looked like a 50-year-old man despite being only in his thirties.
  • However, right when he was about to pay off his debts and was beginning to see hope in his family and life, he crashed into a sports car.
  • Even though he didn't recognize the black sports car in front of him, he didn't have to think to know that it was expensive. The repair fees would be an astronomical amount too!
  • Also, in accidents like these, usually the car at the back was held responsible.
  • At that moment, he could only feel doom upon him. His body wavered, and he almost passed out.
  • "Oh…"
  • Seeing that, Isaac let out a light sigh. He pitied the cab driver very much.
  • "F*ck!"
  • Meanwhile, in the black sports car, a young man in a floral shirt sat in the driver's seat. He realized that the steering wheel was stuck, so he instantly cursed. Then, he looked at the girl in the passenger seat.
  • The girl's face was red and her eyes were glassy as she slumped weakly in the passenger seat. There was anger in her eyes as she glared at the young man, but there was also a more prominent pleading look as if she were begging the man to let her go!
  • "Don't worry, when I've taught that guy a lesson, I'll teach you what it feels like to be a woman!"
  • Noticing the plea in the girl's eyes, the young man didn't have an ounce of mercy on his face. Instead, he sneered, then opened the car door.
  • Hm?
  • In the cab, Isaac saw the young man getting out of the car in a rage. He noticed that the young man's face was red and that the latter's body was a little shaky as he walked. Isaac concluded right then that the young man had drunk quite a considerable amount of alcohol.
  • Because of this, Isaac let out a sigh of relief for the cab driver's sake.
  • "F*ck, get out of the car!"
  • Just then, the young man rushed to the window of the cab and began hitting the window with his fists as he shouted and sputtered.
  • The cab driver snapped out of his daze, but he still seemed lost.
  • "Don't worry, he's drunk, so you're not responsible," Isaac informed him.
  • Drunk?
  • Hearing Isaac's words, the cab driver was stunned, then he could see for himself that the young man's face was flushed. He sighed in relief, then opened the car door.
  • "Do you know how to f*cking drive?"
  • The young man roared and grabbed the cab driver by the collar, dragging him out of the cab. Then, he proceeded to slap the driver.
  • Tonight, he had taken many pains to drug the girl in the passenger seat, who he had liked for a while. He was about to bring this girl to a villa for a fun time, but in the end, the cab driver ruined his plans. The sports car's booster was destroyed, so he couldn't continue driving!
  • That was why he was so mad!
  • Slap—
  • The cab driver was caught off guard as the young man's slap found its target. The driver lost his footing and almost fell to the ground.
  • "You… You were driving while drunk, so it's your fault!" said the cab driver in fury and injustice.
  • "So what if I did?!"
  • When the young man heard the cab driver's words, he didn't realize his fault. Instead, he grew even angrier and grabbed the cab driver as he raised his fist again.
  • Even though the young man was drunk, he constantly worked out, so he had a well-maintained body. As for the cab driver, due to the debts he had amassed because of his daughter's illness, he had worked his body sick in those three years. He was powerless to fight back, so he was instantly beaten to the ground by the young man's punch.
  • In the darkness of the night, the cab driver's mouth was torn as blood trickled down his chin. His face was swollen like a bun, and he looked horrible.
  • "F*ck you for ruining my plans!"
  • Even so, the young man was still furious as he shouted angrily. He stepped forward again, ready to keep beating up the cab driver.
  • "Stop!"
  • In the next moment, before the young man made another move, a voice suddenly sounded.
  • As soon as the voice died away, a figure appeared.
  • Like a ghost, Isaac flashed into view and shielded the cab driver behind him.
  • "Who… Who the f*ck are you?"
  • The young man was surprised for a moment, then when he realized that Isaac was the passenger, he sneered. "Do you think I'd stop just because you told me to?"
  • "You were driving under the influence of alcohol, and now you're beating people up. Do you have no regard for the law?"
  • Isaac raised an eyebrow. The young man was the one in the wrong, but he still beat someone up. He was too bold and treated the law like it was nothing.
  • "I'm warning you, don't put your nose where it shouldn't belong. Get lost, or I'll kill you!"
  • The young man was ruthless, and he treated Isaac like a nobody on the street. As long as he wanted to, he could easily kill Isaac.
  • When he finished talking, the young man didn't wait for a reply from Isaac as he raised his fist and brought it toward Isaac.
  • Isaac didn't dodge. He reached out his right hand and shaped it into a palm. It looked like a large door defending him.
  • Creak!
  • Immediately after, a dull sound could be heard. The young man felt as if he had punched a steel wall, and pain shot through his fingers, so much so that it felt like they were broken.
  • The young man was startled by this reaction, and his expression instantly changed as he sobered up a little. He stared at Isaac in disbelief, as if asking, 'Who is this guy?'
  • Crack—
  • The response to the young man's query came in the form of a crisp sound.
  • Isaac's fingers gripped the young man's wrist. With a push, the young man's wrist was instantly dislocated.
  • "Ah—"
  • Immense pain racked the young man's wrist as he howled in pain. His drunkenness instantly disappeared without a trace as he kneeled with one knee on the ground, his expression an extreme terror.
  • Crack—
  • The next moment, the young man's howling stopped abruptly as another crisp sound took its place.
  • In the darkness of the night, Isaac raised his right hand, and as if he were swatting a fly, he slapped the young man so hard that the latter fell to the ground!
