Chapter 23 Love in the shadows

• Lorenzo arrived at his father's palace, the grandeur of the estate unfolding before him like a lavish tapestry. His bag was taken by the stewardess as he approached the dining area, where the supposed visitors sat. The soft murmur of conversation and the clinking of silverware against fine china filled the air, creating a sense of refinement and elegance.
• As he entered the dining room, Lorenzo's eyes scanned the table, taking in the familiar faces of the American mafia. They were a formidable presence, their rugged features and imposing builds a testament to their reputation. Lorenzo knew them well, having grown up around their influence. One of them, his mother's cousin, Christopher, caught his eye, a hint of a smile playing on his lips.
• "Aha-" his father exclaimed immediately he saw him, "Here he is." The room fell silent, all eyes turning to Lorenzo as he approached the table. A seat was drawn out for him, the sound of the chair scraping against the floor echoing through the room.
