Chapter 19 (Sidney's Pov)

  • Dad was still sitting opposite me and pretended he was not fishing for some advice about what to buy me for my birthday present and I was just too willing to go along with his plan after the shit storm that the previous few hours of my day were.
  • But at some point, my gut feeling became really determined to let me know something was wrong. Since dad was sitting here and both my brothers were in school, I could only think about mom, but then I remembered she was with Aunt Rachel and Becky and my grandparents’ house. So, there was no way she was in any kind of danger or that something could happen to her. Believe me on this. My grandparents’ house was like a fortress ever since dad and grandma came back and we realized someone tried to get rid of them. Sure, the details were supposed to be a mystery to me, but I believe you know me by now. If things were supposed to be hidden from me, then I sure as hell dug them out. And I dug out my dad’s mysterious disappearance a few weeks after his comeback. So, I knew the truth for a long time but still I acted like a clueless princess everyone believed I was.
  • Suddenly my dad’s phone went off and my gut started almost screaming at me at this point, so I knew the call he just received had something to do with my bad feeling. His pace was all business when he spoke to the person on the other side of the line and once he ended the call he turned to Uncle Gabriel, “We need to go. Mac’s people have been seen across the street from our house.” Across the street? But that could only mean one thing, “I am coming with you.” Both men turned my way and dad was already shaking his head, “No princess. These things tend to get ugly and there are still so many things you do not know about my life before you came into it…”
