Chapter 54 - Homeward Bound

• Dave had hoped, when Maddie had told him what she had done, that she would show remorse, that she would try to make amends for what she had done, and her words to him were as a balm to a wound. That she wanted to speak with Cassie, that she was hopeful of forgiveness, that she was willing to try to make this work, was all he could have hoped for. Dave felt a moment of panic when she confessed, he had wanted his mate for so long, but he knew he could never be with someone who was at odds with his best friend’s mate. Knowing how Cassie had been treated in Twin Lakes, while Ace had been in control, Dave didn’t know how she would react to having Maddie as a part of their group. But he felt pride that she wanted to try. The fact that Maddie was willing to ask for forgiveness was enough for him to know, she was his, and he was hers. After that realisation hit he almost fell to his knees before her. In fact, after a slight hesitation, he did just that, he kneeled before his mate and gazed up into her eyes, offering himself to her, body and soul.
• “Mate,” he croaked hoarsely around the lump in his throat, “my Mate, let us return to Twin Lakes for now, I will speak with Jack and Cassie, I will arrange a time for you to see her, but for now, please, I beg you, let’s go home, let's be together, I want to know you, inside and out, I want to tell you my story and I want to hear yours, anything you wish to tell me. I want to know everything about you. Please, come and be with me?”
