• I feel my throat tighten from Arcel's words. Why did he have to say that? But I couldn't speak. I looked at him, incredulous, as if two heads had suddenly sprouted from him. Arcel just smiled at my reaction. He looked around again and took a sip from his glass.
• "Don't look at me like that, Thea. I'm just being a gentleman," he said.
