Chapter 50 Doubts Between Them
- "Grandmother?" Theo asked, his voice sounding softer than usual. His face looked tense, a faint worried line crossing his brows. "What happened to grandmother?" he asked again, this time more urgently.
- Hazel paused for a moment, as if hesitant to reveal what had actually happened. Her hand twisted the edge of her skirt, her lips occasionally biting down. She took a deep breath, then spoke quickly, almost like a mumble. "Grandmother's hurt, Theo. I... I don't know what exactly happened. She said she was just careless. But this isn’t the first time, Theo. It’s not just once or twice. The last few days, I’ve also seen cuts on her arms." Hazel stopped for a moment, her eyes welling up. "And this time, the injury is really bad."
- Theo froze. His wife's words hung in the air, sinking into his mind. The room felt quieter, as if the ticking of the wall clock was the only sound accompanying their silence. Theo looked at Hazel, seeing both sincerity and fear on her face.
